The ride is actually quite better but mine have all been Off Road Models, the trade off is that it does not handle corners as well and panic stops are a tiny bit squirrely.

    Keep it.

You think you can, but you mention payments. That's 'can make payments', not 'can buy a vehicle'.

With your low mileage/condition you have nothing to gain but debt. Even the new toys wouldn't be used enough to rationalize.

Had a 14 sr5 with off road wheels now have a 3rd gen they feel the same suspension wise. The third gen looks better but the 2nd gens superb throttle response was such a pleasure to drive. If you live in a hilly area keep the 2nd gen cause the new engine and tranny won't perform well. Only get the 3rd gen if you think looks are more important than performance.
    I think you should keep the 2nd gen20140812_064854.jpg 20170515_062317.jpg

I agree. I had an 05 and loved the throttle response, the 3rd Gen just isn't the same. Sure the 3rd Gen looks cool, but for the amount of money you will save in the next 5 years by keeping your 2nd gen you could go long travel with a supercharger, bumpers, and fenders to make your truck look badder than most 3rd Gens.

The only reason I could see turning your 2nd gen. in for a 3rd gen. is wanting/needing 4WD.

This was a great read for me as I too was contemplating the move from my 2007 to the 2017. I too am the original owner of my truck; 154,000 miles.

The reason I thought about the upgrade move is when I drove to Gainesville FL this weekend the low tire pressure light came on and will not go off. Even after getting tires filled with air in accordance with spec's. I thought this is the first of a lot of things failing.

    Thanks for the insight. Enjoyed.

Of course I am biased but to me the 3rd gen is just a slightly updated 2nd gen with a worse motor/transmission. The 3rd gen engine is a car motor and not tailored to a truck.

    I love this truck! :)

Dumped my 2014 last December in favor of my current 2017. Both TRD OR, DCSB MGM.

I don't regret it for a second. I hated the 2014's lack of technology and 1980s interior. The 4.0 wasn't this "God like" motor compared to the 3.5, I'd say it's a push power wise. Also, my new 3.5 doesn't have that failure prone air injection system that my 4.0 did.

At the end of the day it's your decision. Test drive the new one, and if you like it like I did after my drive, go get one!

I have owned a 1st gen, and have 3rd gen so this is where I am coming from. Sounds like your 2nd gen meets all of your current needs. Give me no car payment versus tech/comfort any day of the week, especially since you have a work vehicle. I would have kept my 1st gen, but my other vehicle was requiring tons of maintenance (and it was AWD), so I got rid of it (and the first 1st gen) so I could get the new one. No sense in keeping two truck in my mind.

Ultimately, it is up to you. If you want a 3rd gen and can do it, by all means! but it sounds like you have a very well taken care of 2nd gen that should last you forever.

In 2025 everyone is going to be bashing the 4th Gen and saying they're sticking with their tried and true turd gens. Memories are short.

I kept my 2000 4Runner for 17 years. I love my 2017 Taco, but I wouldn't say it's that much of an upgrade over the 4Runner. Put your payments in the bank, and buy a new one for cash in a few years.

I love this truck for now lol. I'm hoping I don't see things falling apart. I have had no recalls or howling, squeaky leaf springs, etc, but I have had my third brake light leaking water inside which is going to be fixed tomorrow by the dealer. I do have the auto and I have absolutely no issues with it. 4K miles in.

But I came from the 4 cylinder, but I did drive the v6 2ndgen and was not impressed as a lot here have praised. Just my opinion. I do get a lot of compliments, but not sure if that's worth 40k to you. I have the Limited so I do enjoy the the cabin compared to the 2nd gen.

    Good luck!

Probably an easy fix. Potentially one of your TPMS batteries went dead. They only last an average of 7 years.
