Just wondering if anyone has replaced the OEM backup camera with an aftermarket one?

Or if anyone has done the Anytime Backup camera mod/Car Solutions camera mod with an aftermarket rear camera?

If so, how did you do it? Just cut wires and splice in? Aftermarket cable/harness?

Following this. Not so much because I plan on doing it but more along the lines of being intrigued by possible outcomes.

My moms higher end Mercedes have always had way nicer cameras than my vehicles. Referring to my Tacoma and my upper trim level F150. The camera in her vehicle just blows ours away, so im interested as well

I've got the Car Solutions anytime camera module and it has an additional plug for a rear camera. Just trying to get some info if I can just plug another camera in and it overrides the OEM or if I have to unplug the OEM or cut wires.

Or if there is just a better solution all around.

I'm interested as well. I don't really need a higher res camera but a more fisheye type view would be nice. Mainly for backing up and you have limited side views. Nice to be able to see cars coming up on either side earlier.

I just picked up that harness, yes you unplug the factory camera and plug this in

yep, no need for the rca connector if you are just unplugging the whole connector

Interesting. Unfortunately I have a 4 pin connector. At least it only uses 4 wires, so now I just have to find a harness, ha.

i believe the connector is the same on all of them. They don’t all have the same number of wires used but all have the 8 pin connector.

I just looked. Unless it was the wrong one but its routed all the way up into my tail gate and right next to my pop n lock wire.

Follow it out of the tailgate. It’s behind the rear bumper just under the bed. From what I have seen they are all the same
