I am thinking about having the entire rear window with the slider removed and replaced with a sold glass unit. I do not want a topper so I don’t need it for access, i can’t reach it while driving and really don’t need it for ventilation.

    Has anyone else done this?

I did a google search recently and found a few tacomaworld articles about this subject. I am considering replacing mine because the weatherstripping on the slider is coming undone making it hard to open. I have never really needed to open mine either. The glass is available on Amazon or eBay.

I did this in my 2011. Never opened the back glass because I couldn’t reach it. I actually thought it looked better with the solid glass.

The slider is nice, but inconvenient to use unless you convert it to a power slider. The solid rear glass looks much better than a slider.

Personally, I'd look into swapping one from a 3rd gen with the electric window. I don't use mine much because I can't reach it, but if I could control it with a switch I'd use it a lot more. Looks like the 3rd gen ones should fit so you'd just need to wire it up.

Id like to do mine also because the molding around it looks like hell and think its part of the glass

Does the solid piece just pop right in? Got a broken window that insurance won’t cover and need to replace it sooner rather than later.

Yeah same fit. I had the same thing, broke mine and decided I didn’t want the slider. Turned out to be a bit cheaper too. Win win.

I did this on my old F150, found a junkyard model with a one piece that was limo tinted, installed it and was happier.
