    So, I have very similar symptoms to this issue AND I have the recessed hex guide cap meaning I have the updated guide on my 04 tacoma. Can the newer guide get so worn that the symptoms can be the same as the roller style guide?

    The spring can wear out, tightening the cap or replacing the spring can help.
