Replaced crankshaft sensor, still getting p0335 code

    Hey guys, new to the forum. I came into an 05 tacoma v6, and it had a code for the crankshaft position sensor. When I jumped the truck off, it cranked right up. I didn't run it long due to low antifreeze. Since then, I have installed a new battery (needed one anyway), and installed a new denso crank position sensor. After getting everything back together, cleared the code, cranked it up, engine light pops up again. Same code. Wiring looks fine, truck idles and seems to run just fine. I'm curious if anyone has run into this issue, and what we're the trouble shooting methods. I'm thinking use a bolt meter to test old sensor, see if it falls into spec, maybe ohm the wire from the ecu to the plug, and also possibly pulling the ecu/m and have it tested. Thanks for the help in advance.

    DESCRIPTION
    The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor system consists of a CKP sensor plate and a pickup coil. The sensor plate has 34 teeth and is installed on the crankshaft. The pickup coil is made of an iron core and a magnet.The sensor plate rotates and, as each tooth passes through the pickup coil, a pulse signal is created. The pickup coil generates 34 signals per engine revolution. Based on these signals, the ECM calculates the crankshaft position and engine RPM. Using these calculations, the fuel injection time and ignition timing are controlled.


    This is what causes the P0335 Code:
    •No CKP sensor signal to ECM while cranking (1 trip detection logic)
    •No CKP sensor signal to ECM at engine speed of 600 rpm or more (1 trip detection logic)

    So guys I haven't had a chance to ohm out the wire, but I've tested the new denso plug. It's within the specs above. I also had the ecu tested and it came back that the ecu is fine. So now that I've gotten it narrowed down to the wire from the ecu to the plug. What's my next steps? Repin the plug on both ends, shown above and run new wire to the plug? Has anyone had to go this route? Thanks again guys.

    New here as well.... 2005 tacoma V6 4x4....

    curious if anyone has had this similar issue as well?

    bout 3months ago it started w a VVT solenoid code which I replaced w new denso solenoid.... it then progressed a few days after clearing that code to
    getting p0335 and p0340 - cam sensor /ckp sensor "circuit A" {respectively} had the exact same issues w cam sensor and crank sensor.... replaced both myself w zero. luck.... so I went to mechanic after not being absolutely sure I installed ckp sensor {I heard its easy to misalign or install too close or too far from the pickup ring on the crank etc}
    But just came back w all new DENSO cam sensor {x2} and new ckp sensor... still getting p0335 Crank Sensor code.

    I hear that these codes in short succession, along w the VVT solenoid code{which I have switched to denso already} points to misaligned or stretched timing chain.... Mann! I freaking hope not!

    I've got 186k on this sweet thing and I'd rather pay 5-6k for a new motor than to pay 2kish just for new timing chain install...
    the truck has been great till recently and I love her too much to sell... sooo... im gonna keep running these probs down till that beauty won't run and then give her a new heart!

    I'll keep this board posted if I'm able to resolve...


    next step before new motor {obviously} is to check all grounds and connectors to and from ecu....

    OP hasn't been online since 2021, I doubt they will reply.

    So your truck runs fine but sets a P0335 code?
    Is thst the only code it's setting?

    It was running until it threw a P0335..I just replaced the CPK a couple months ago & its reading 1.9K ohms & puts out a good wave on the scope at 5vac, but seems a bit high...the manual says it should have 2vac...the cam sensors have good graphs @2vdc....my tach isn't reading anything when its cranked & no spark, no fuel either...it does throw a oxygen heater sensor code after running a few seconds...It was running until i touched the connectors on the ECM to back pin the CPK, I noticed it started stalling when I pulled on the connectors, so I pushed it back & it ran good again for a second then died & hasn't started since. I'm gonna check that O2 sensor tomorrow then maybe try another CPK

    An O2 heater won't cause a running/starting issue so I wouldn't worry with that yet.

    So you have an oscilloscope?

    You have good signal at the PCM but it won't run?

    Have you checked pin fitment on the PCM connectors?

    It was a bad connection at the ecu
