I put new tires on the truck Thursday and will driving late Monday night my TPMS light flashed for about a minute then went steady on. Checking the owners manual, it indicates a TPMS malfunction.

When the tires were being installed, the installer detached the TPMS from the rim, dropping it into the tire. He then broke the beads, pulled one bead off the rim, then reached in and remove the TPMS. Before installing the new tire, he replaced some parts in the TPMS and installed them back into the rims.

Anyone have this happen and if so, what was done to fix it?

    Thanks,

    Ray

Just tried to re-set the system.

    No joy.....still indicating a malfunction.

I've made an appointment with the shop tomorrow afternoon.

It may just be one of the sensors that needs re programed.I've heard on the forum that can be the case.I've never had any issues myself but hope its minor for you Ray!

TPMS should not need reprogramming after tire change. It sounds like the installer screwed them up.

This. I agree Hans. They should not need to be programmed or anything else, they are using the same sensors. He broke at least one of them.

Does the TPMS light flash now when you start the truck? Its possible one of your sensors died (battery died) and it coincidentally happened shortly after your new tire install. Not likely, but possible

It flashes for about a minute then stays on. Owners manual says that this indicates a malfunction in the TPMS.

PS: Thanks for all the ideas. I'll report back this evening with the diagnosis/repair results.

I guess I've got to start this very soon....
Light from hell never goes away.... not worth paying to take each tire and wheel apart to find/replace sensors. check tire pressures and leave it be. Nothing to lose sleep over.

the person doing the job broke one of the sensors

they should remove them install new orings install them again

with a techstream you can tell which one is busted (afaik)

go back an demand they find and fix the bad one (could be battery too)

Curious if you had made it back to the shop yet for follow up. As other stated, tire change shouldn't make that go off. People get new tires all the time. When I got new ones on mine and the wifes Rav4, I never had any issues. If the tech dropped it in the wheel, most likely something was knocked loose or broken.

Shop pulled codes and found two bad sensors. We also dropped the spare and it only had 10-psi so we aired that up, cleared the code(s) and the light re-set. I've driven about 100-miles and it hasn't come on again so we may have got it.

I know the tech didn't drop or mis-treat the sensors as I was with him the entire time.
