I've got a '23 SR5 3.5 that will be turning 2 years old next week.

Being from New England, between the 3 months of stupid cold & 3 months of stupid hot we get every year, battery life isn't one of the greatest things around here.

The average these days is 4 years. I know I'm planning far in advance, but better safe than sorry.

There's a group 24F under the hood that lists 582CCA. That seems low to me.

Looking up my options (I work at NAPA), the 7524F has 650CCA, the 8424FAAA has 725CCA & the 9824F AGM has 710CCA.

If you had my truck and your battery croaked tomorrow, what would you get for a replacement?

WA is gentle on batteries. We have had them last eight to ten years. The Taco battery barely lasted three and went TU hard. One day good, one day bad.

I went with a Costco stock replacement Interstate 24F. It has been turning over harder than the original for almost five years now.

AGMs are great. I would go that route in the future as I got a fridge since then battery swap.

I just replaced with the same battery group it came with, as I’ve never had a problem, but I don’t have anything other than a cheapo heated seat pad added, no on the road microwave popcorn, extra terrestrial coms, or stadium lighting added.

Sounds like you got the last year of good Interstate before Exide bought them and killed their reliability.

Yeah, the only options on mine that require power are 4WD and the bed lighting kit.

I'd probably be fine with another 24F from Toyota, maybe it's just my brain telling me that the CCA rating is too low.

Dunno who makes battery's for Toyota. Bought my '08 in '19 and the Toyota battery looked fairly new, but not brand new. Still going strong. I've never bought an OEM battery in my life (@ 70). Got me thinkin' when it's time....
Realizing I just jinxed myself (but I did knock on wood!).

i have been reading battery threads lately, since i am getting near due for one too, and from what i think i have learned, to properly charge an AGM you need to up the alternator voltage. to do that I think requires a tune $$$ ridiculous for just this reason. Please someone that knows for sure correct me if i am wrong.

If you work at napa, then get one of those Odyssey AGM batteries when they go on sale. You can get a group 27, and order the battery pan from the 2nd gen Tacoma. Much better option.

They are all the same so look for the best price and best warranty that covers OEM specs. The EverStart Max 24F is the best Taco battery deal going in America.

I put a 51R AGM in my wife's 2020 Civic 1.5T last year and it runs like a top, no alternator or battery issues.

Toyota batteries are “hit or miss”. My factory battery developed a bad cell at 33 months. Got a free Toyota battery under warranty which is 6.5 year old and still going strong.

Eastern WA is hard on batteries with below zero and above 100 temps over the course of a year.

Not to start a p...ing match but not as hard as canadian prairies. For here costco, canadian tire, standard size lead acid works well for quality, price, warranty. Same old battery thread dozens of times a year, same answers.

additional info complements of AI. kinda suggests regulator designed for AMG is best case but not critical.
    https://www.perplexity.ai/search/do-agm-car-batteries-require-a-rgIfZ2sMR1OJ7zJYhWJieQ

    and then there is this:
    https://www.perplexity.ai/search/can-agm-car-batteries-be-used-tnSbpA08QyaE7Mt8kQA2LA
even Perplexity/Claude AI is hedging...does not seem to have a definitive, in all cases, answer.

getting more specific (and it had to work harder to come up with the answer):

so, i am going to conclude AGM in 3rd gen tacoma is fine without a charging modification, as suggested in other threads.

edit: and if you dig deeper into the answers, it starts to hedge, so absolutely ok is not for sure. it claims some users of tacomas with AGMs are reporting premature failures and charging voltage modification may be suggested.
it does not really know and i doubt anyone in TW knows better.
fortunately i don't really need one and the additional cost is not smart for me :D
good luck to you all
probably ok without charging mod. <=EDIT: wrong...read on where it is definitely answered

Maybe not, but our winters still suck. This February was our coldest on record since 2003. Woke up one morning to an air temp of -8 and a wind chill of -30.

And even worse, our summers from June through August might as well be Florida. High 80s on average, at least a few dozen days in the 90s & a few odd 100 degree plus days, with the killer being the godawful humidity.

Ya it's been a tough winter in most places.
-30C/-22F for good portion of winter here with constant snow.
We don't get your humidity here in summer instead it's skin crunchy dry.
Stay safe and a good battery

Tell me more! We've been buying the interstate batteries from Costco since they started selling them. The first batteries we bought were fine I think but after that, feels like we're replacing them every 2 years or something. We get some prorated credit but it's been a bit of a PITA. Is this now just the expectation with these batteries now?

That happened to me a few weeks ago in my garage.
Only choice was the 1 auto parts store near me O'Rilleys. They had 2 choices for my 2016 i took the better one.
My neighbor drove me down to them with the old battery and i got the new one.
