What battery have any of you used to replace your OEM battery, My battery is 8.5 years old, the original battery has lasted that long, I am amazed, I know however I am running on borrowed time. I have a buddy of mine says that he has used an Advance one and its pretty good, I also read that Autozone battery's are made by the same people that make Die-Hard, anyone know what the original batteries are made by, I've heard, AC/Delco, any thoughts on this are appreciated!!!

Mine cranked funny the other day and I new the battery was going. I went with the Auto Zone 3 year only because that is all they had in the large battery. I wanted to go with the 2 year because most likely I will sell the truck in early 2018. I had the 2 year in my 2009 and it worked fine for the 2 years I had it. Texas heat kills batteries but when I owned Fords I averaged about 5 years on the OEMs. So far on my 2 Toyotas it is just over 3.

I've purchased a lot of AutoZone Duralast Gold batteries and nearly always get 4-6 years out of them

I've had 1 in 20 or so that pooped out after a year and I got a free replacement.

I'm on my second battery from Advance Auto. When I bought my first one about 4 years ago they were the only local parts store that had the bigger size. When I replaced the battery earlier this year Autozone had the bigger size on the shelf but went with the Advance Auto battery.

I went with a Diehard Gold in 2012. Just did a preventative replacement yesterday with a Duracell Ultra Gold from Batteries Plus. https://www.batteriesplus.com/replacement/battery/inline/627f1nl/sli27fm

My OEM battery died a few times before I replaced it, and the Diehard was getting weak sounding, so after 4+ years, I figure it was cheap insurance to buy a new one.

    WARRANTY VOIDED
That's what I did. $93 bucks for the one with the 5 year warranty.

Living in the extreme heat of the Southwest kills car batteries fast. 2 years is typical before they crap out. Getting the one with the warranty means I'll actually get at least one more before it expires and hey, free battery!

I almost thought my alternator was going out because the battery was so dead before I replaced it (2-3 weeks ago) that the belts and shit could barely move.
Put a DVM (digital volt meter) on it after the replacement and was solid at 13.6VDC.

Now here's a semi-related question: What are those "dual batteries" that I see some people running... Is that to power all the extra whizzbangs and do-hickies you guys have strapped to your rigs like margarita blenders, plug in cattle prods and steam cleaners for those extra strenuous overland trips? :D

I went with the optima red top... a little expensive but seems to be really good so far.

    ...we'll get there.
yeah, dual battery lets you run certain things off of 1 battery, and then usually just the basic car electronics (starter, headlights, etc) off of a dedicated starter battery. you can then choose a deep cycle battery for the add-ons, and go for a good cranking battery for the starter. if you run your house (add-ons) down all the way, you can still start up and drive home with your starter battery. some set ups allow you to link the batteries too, if you're winching or need to jump your own starter battery because somehow it got drained.

a good way to go if you use your electronics outside of drive-time.

Dual batteries can be great... my F-250 had 2 batteries, it saved me a few times (one battery was completely dead and I didn't realize it)

OP: I've got an Optima yellow top, been at least 5 years & never let me down. I think this is like an oil discussion, everyone swears the one they're using is the best but nobody is using the same one!

my original 27F battery died on me right at the 3 year mark. Just up and quit, cranked find the day before. Luckily i had planned for this and used my harbor freight jumper pack to start the truck. I did my research and found 27F batteries HARD to find and expensive, the only thing they offered was more reserve capacity, not necessarily something that i need as most of my use with the truck off is very very low amp draw. I went with a 24F battery that had more cold cranking amps than the 27F batteries, and its a lil smaller n lighter, at the cost of a bit of reserve capacity.

I went with the maxxlife battery from walmart so pretty much no matter where i am i can get a replacement under warranty if needed.

Don't let it die on you. Red tops do not like to be fully discharged and almost always never fully recover. Yellow tops and blue tops don't really mind recharges, but red tops pretty much fall flat after recharges.

That's not good, it's only 6 months old. I'll have my wife start it and let it run every week or so until I get back. Thanks for the heads up!

After my OEM battery died I went with a Diehard Advanced Gold AGM battery from Sears.. So far great results, no complaints, and $150 for a name brand AGM battery with great reviews was a pretty good deal in my opinion.

Interstate. Really though, there are basically 2 battery manufacturers in the US that make most of the batteries.
