I've been watching this...my optima is getting weak. I see a 31M in my future really soon.

I saw it. Not great timing on my end. There's a local place here that wasn't that much more, so I decided to wait.
Gotta have the Pelfrybilt battery cage to go along with it.

    secret stuff.
I typically go with whatever is close to where I'm stranded when the battery kicks the bucket. OEM lasted 5 yrs, Auto Zone whatever correct size is 3nd year so far so good.

How long have you owned the Optima? I bought mine in 2014, not sure how long mine will last, apparently they aren't what they used to be.

I'm just throwing this out here for what it's worth: I was in the gym and picked up an issue of Handyman and they had an article about picking batteries/maintenance. The person who wrote the piece interviewed the head of Johnson controls, which dominates the car battery market. According to him, when choosing a battery more CCA isn't necessarily better. His recommendation was to match the CCA on the OEM battery and even said that buying a battery with more CCA than the OEM, can reduce the battery life. He said lower CCA than the OEM, would be worst than higher, but OEM is best.

I was always under the assumption that more CCA is better than less, especially in cold climates. My last OEM battery that I didn't treat the best, lasted me over 7 years. I just replaced it with an Everstart Maxx 24f for $93 at Walmart and it has a higher CCA than the OEM. If this battery doesn't last as last long as the OEM, then my next battery will definitely be an OEM, with it's 8 year pro rated battery warranty, which is 2 years more replacement coverage and 3 years more prorated coverage an the Everstart too.

Bought the red top in 2010 I think. It's been in there for a while.

Looked through all the battery thread on 27F vs 24F.. Decided I would stay stock and find a 27F..Costco didn't have either on the shelf.
Ended up with a 24F CT Eliminator; CCA 725 CA 890 RC 120 4yr replacement.. oh well.

Pulled the old battery out and the PO had already switched to 24F.

My battery just went out after 9.5 years in a 2007 trd sport. Could not find a 27F at Costco Walmart or Canadian tire. wtf a guy at Canadian tire said they don't get them anymore. I got a Everstart Maxx 24F at Wally for $117.00 plus tax. Only thing is I had to MacGyver the battery hold down rod on the backside of the battery cuz it was too short as the 24F battery is over an inch higher than the oem 27f. Had to drill the rod out and get a longer rod cuz the back rod was welded to the top clamp.

    2 year old bump...
How's the Everstart holding up for you? Still have it? I just got one today because my last one, which was a Duracell, shit the bed. It was only 3yo and the warranty was only for 3 years. Go figure. Anyway, I don't abuse my batteries so hoping I get a few good years out of this one.

I still have the Everstart, so far so good. I did leave a passenger door ajar a few days ago and after the battery measured 12.42 volts Which is about half charged, so I left a trickle charger on it for 4 hours which fully charged it. A day later I measured the battery again and measured 12.37 volts, it has been getting cooler here but hope this doesn't mean it on its way out by not holding a charge. It will be about 32 degrees tonight, so I will keep my eye on it and see if this cooler weather will do it in. I hope if mine does give up the ghost that it's still coved by the warranty so I won't have to buy another so soon.

Thanks. Not sure what year you have, but does your overhead light turn off after the door has been open for too long? I or my kids have left doors open for whatever reason, it's parked in the garage at home, so no big deal, but the light shuts itself off after a while. Not sure how long. I'm sure that feature has saved me more times than one.

Anyway, thanks for the update. I'm not sure how many more years I'll have the truck. But I hoped my last battery would have lasted until it was time for something new . If it wasn't bad timing, I probably would have got one from Toyota since the original lasted me about 6 years.

12.42 volts is half charged? Are you running a 24 volt system???

I hope that was a joke... this from my owners manual: Open voltage at 68 degrees
    12.6-12.8 V = Fully charged
    12.2-12.4 V = Half discharged
    11.8-12.0 V = Discharged

...So 12.42 is close to Half discharged.

I have a 2006 and I wish mine had that feature. From day one, especially when cold my interior light would come on when going around corners and would at times stay on at night, so I haven't used that light for about 11 years. I did have the dealership check it out while still under warranty, but like all intermittent problems they couldn't duplicate it, so it didn't get solved, so I just live with it.

Today I checked my batteries open voltage after sitting overnight with temperatures at 32 degrees and it measured 12.31 volts. I took it for a long drive yesterday so know it was in a fully charged state. The funny part is just for the heck of it I checked the water in the battery and wasn't at the full level, so I got my jug of distilled water and filled it. After filling it I measured it again and it went from 12.31 volts to 12.41 volts. I'm hoping that will bring my battery to a fully charged state and get me through the winter.
