Hey guys, my girlfriend literally lost both my normal use key w remote and backup key for my 2008 Tacoma. Fortunately my truck is safe while parked in my garage (unlocked) and i'm not needing it for the next couple weeks.

I've browsed through the forums and can't find anything clear as to how to go about getting cheaper/quality replacements and who or how to get them programmed.

If you've bought new/replacement keys for your 05-10 tacoma and had successes getting them programmed to open+start your truck along with the keyless entry device can you please add below where you bought them, how you got them cut and programmed along with how much everything costed you please.

Are locksmiths able to program a key without a master?

Techstream requires a certified master tech file a request that must be approved by a manager. Along with a bunch of legal stuff. Which provides the tech with a set of numbers to copy and paste into the system and takes 30ish minutes to program a new master.

That's why you never ever keep ALL the keys together or in the same place.

That is also why you never ever let your girlfriend have the keys to your truck. Esp since she has already lost one set... How the hell does anyone lose two sets of keys and fobs.

    Lesson learned I suppose.

I would suggest that she buy you a new set of keys and fobs.

And you think this would be a win? LOL You can't win against a woman.

"Remember when you lost the keys to my truck?"
"Yeah, and I paid for them. Remember when I caught you with ________ and your pants were off?"
"But you're the one that lost the keys"
"And what were you looking for when you had your pants off?"
    "My keys?"
    "Nice try!"
    "Com'on baby"
"Com'on baby, my ass. I'm going shopping and I'm taking your truck, because you've got my car all apart, because you tried to change the oil and drained the transmission by mistake"

That was truly funny! I choked on my coffee... :)

I was looking for my keys! LOL

Mine asked me if I remembered X, Y or Z that I did wrong and I always say no. She asked me why and I tell her it is wasted brain cells. Why should both of us remember the same crap as I know she is Always going to remember!

I swear she is related to an elephant. ;) We've been married for 36 years. She already knows I'm an asshole.

Thanks JaCado but that's kind of a vague answer to my problem.
What i got from that was to:
    1. Contact the dealer to get a key code, then have a locksmith cut the chipped key with that code. okay... Where to get the chipped key? How much? Is it even possible to get the code from Toyota?
    2. Call AAA and hope that they'll provide the same service as they did Cnasianfire daughter. AAA website isn't too clear as to what that service offers.

Thanks for your help but i was hoping to reach someone who'd had this problem, what they did, where they got it from and how much it costed them

You can find a chipped key on Ebay or the like, have a hardware store or key place cut the key and either find somebody with tech stream or get yourself for the 2 day or week trial whatever it is and program the key.

Wont be able to reprogram as an individual with TechStream unless you have a master key to begin with.

Don’t you need a key to cut another key? I know you can program the key without another key but how would a hardware store cut the key?

I bought my truck used with only one set of keys. Lost them while in the city at the art museum with my two kids and their two friends. First tow truck that came couldn't tow it because it was 4x4. Flatbed wrecker came, towed to dealer. No master key to program a new key, so truck was reprogrammed to accept a new key and fob. About $400 later I was out the door and pissed off. Remember the good Ole days when you could just get a key cut for 99 cents? Well those days are long gone, my friend.

Not if you owned the early 2nd gen 2.7l engines, I had 3 replacement keys made for my 2006 Tacoma at the local hardware store for $2.99 each.
