So far, by just giving a little push on the wires, the couple times the the blower fan stops at number 1, 2, or 3 speed, and the fan works.

How long did it hold up before burning out this time?

It is still working well. It burnt out because a chipmunk built a nest in the fan. Now when I turn the fan on, I listen for telltale signs of another nest being built. I have had to clean and replace the cabin air filter 3 more times.

Great post. Just today, my blower decided to only blow on high. Quick search on TacomaWorld brought me here and a lil wiggle of the connector and I'm blowin like a mofo. Thank you VERY MUCH!:thumbsup:

Thank you so much for this post! I have 05 Tacoma, had a 97 before this. In both trucks have had to replace ac blower motor more than once. In fact I was pleased they made it so accessible in the 05 model. Anyway, I knew this time was different because it was still blowing but only worked on high. After reading this post I looked under there and the floor mat was jammed up against the resistor. I pulled the mat back where it goes and pulled the resistor wires up a bit, back where they go and tada! Thank you so much!

@garyods - You are my hero tonight! Thanks to your pictures and explanation I had my blower motor resistor replaced in less than 10 minutes. Found the part on Amazon for $25. Dealer probably would have charged $150 - $200 for that job.

THANKS! I own a 2005 Tocoma and the resistor and wire went bad. I would recommend using an automatic wire stripper and i used butt connectors to splice the wires together.

I have actually read several comments mentioning the resistor nor the plug is the problem. It's actually the pins inside the resistor which are too narrow and don't make sufficient contact with the plug. It makes sense to me and I could see why they would be causing the resistor to burn out due to lack of consuctivity from a proper contact connection from within.

While they sit like this - - - - the issue could easily be improved upon when replacing the burnt up resistor with the new one by taking some needlenose pliers and tweak the pins so they are no longer straight and make better contact on the connector by making them sit like this / / / / .... not to such an extreme obviously, but just enough to allow a better contact to the resistor pins to the plug. Apply dielectric grease to the plug and resistor pins as well to allow for better conductivity. You should not have the problem again.

I was lazy and had the dealer change out my resistor because my fan would not work on HIGH? They did it at no charge saying there was a TSB. Hm? Anyhoo, it did not fix the problem. I pulled out the climate controls and realized they were also burnt. Ordered a new to me climate control off eBay for $73 and that fixed it. Still need to change out the burnt plug.
