Any tips on new front and back shocks? They seem to be getting tired, so looking for direct bolt ins with no fuss. Bilsteins would be nice, but seems like springs have to be compressed on them and such, so meh. Any good complete shock kits for the front (and back) out there which bolt in?

Seeing the usual KYB,Monroe, Moog, etc through rockauto but in tours of duty with other vehicles like PT Cruisers, been hearing mixed bags about those brands being anything but quality lately.

Any tips on good leaf springs also to put in? Got the TSB done on them and just seems to be the same old unloaded issues as before. Nothing fancy, just looking for near oem quality (I know, oxymoron considering the original issues, heh heh) meaning no fancy lift kits or anything needed. Stock height is fine.

    Thanks!

Which bilsteins are you looking at? I ran with 5100s for about 10 years, just upgraded to 6112s. Depending where you order from and if you buy new coils, you can get them pre installed and still be around stock height. I had eibach "peformance" coils on them, which I think is close to stock coil strength. But they were taller, so lifted.

I had the stock leafs for about that long too, recently upgraded but I'm not sure how to upgrade without getting a lift. That said the ride is amazing now! I have bilstein 5160s in the rear and they feel amazing as well. I think they cover stock range, your leafs will determine stock height or not. Bilstien is a great way to go for middle of the road budget guys like me.

if you are on a budget, i would recommend looking at Facebook market place or craigslist for some shocks of a 3rd gen tacoma. you can usually find a "like new" Bilstein setup for about $250. front shocks with springs, rear shocks and leaf springs (OEM)

if you want some better rear leaf springs then i would recommend getting a new leaf pack. they are pricey ($500) but its worth it.

Sorry for not replying everyone, got real busy.

Finally looking to get it all buttoned down and repaired after a big garage sale. So I've seen some guides kicking around using General Springs and then putting some Bilstein 5100's on if tweaking the height is needed some.

Not looking to lift it, just get away from the poor quality of the springs new from the factory and then the recall which has given just as poor of a quality spring wise.

Does anyone know what u-bolts i'd use on the General Springs site? Could I get away with just swapping the new toyota parts that got put on, or i'll need longer ones for the new spring set?

Just when I figured out the new leaf springs, then comes a U Bolt curve ball, hah hah...

Also, want to freshen up the front end with new coils/struts. Seen that toyota may have "balanced" the truck with the coil springs to counteract the battery/fuel tank weight on the drivers side, so would the oem springs be a better bet? What would be the difference between These Parts as listed? Seeing a $119 and a $165 option. Bilstein seems to be recommending OEM coil springs, so hence searching for new oem ones.

Thanks for the help and apologies for a late reply again!

I installed the Heavy Duty General Springs (thicker than the standard ones) earlier this year, and just re-used my old U-bolts. However, the previous owner installed Ride-Rite air bags, so I can't be sure they're the stock bolts.
