Taco audio folks, one of my front speakers has stopped working. These are aftermarket speakers that I put in shortly after buying the truck (about 10 years ago) as part of a mild factory audio upgrade.

These speakers were part of a set including the 6.5/6.75" door speakers, a set of tweeters, and a set of crossovers.

Can someone recommend replacements for the 6.5/6.75" speakers that will also still work with the crossovers for me, without re-buying the kit?

    Here's the original kit:

This is the speaker that went bad:

I don't know a ton about car audio which is why I bought the kit that had speakers and crossovers. They are being driven by the factory head unit going into an amp (line level) feeding the crossovers and into the speakers (if I remember correctly).

Can I just drop in a pair of basically any speakers of the same size?

    Thanks!

4500Hz is pretty high to be trying to find a midbass speaker replacement. 3 Ohms is ridiculously rare as well. I think by the time you find something you're about into a new comp system money. If I were in this position I wouldn't think twice about buying new stuff.

Yeah, that's about what I figured would be the answer. Like I said I don't know much but I was pretty sure 3 ohms was odd ball, all I see is 2 and 4. I was hoping I could just replace the speakers with normal ones without changing the crossovers and tweeters though.

    Oh well.

I don't mind the idea of buying a whole new speaker system, but my wallet is hiding somewhere in shame, the poor thing.

I'm 95% sure I bought the setup from crutchfield, and they have legendary customer service. I'll call them up when I have time and explain the situation and see if maybe they have an orphaned speaker from the same set, or a returned one by chance, and if not I'll just bite the bullet and buy an open box or sale priced new set. It's been long enough they really don't owe me anything, but they might at least point me in the direction of a good price.

    All the best!

    Thanks!

Ebay has a lot of name brand (cerwin-Vega, jbl, alpine) set ups including the mid range, tweeters, and crossovers for $40-$50. Not as good as what I had but it would tide me over until I can save up for a higher quality set up. I'll probably get something like that and see if I'm satisfied, and if not spend a couple hundo around my birthday or Christmas (usually somebody on my wife's side has no idea what to get me and just gives me a check). It'll beat having a dead speaker, that's for sure.

Honestly I'm far from an audiophile anyway. I'm driving everything from the factory head unit so the speakers were probably not reaching their potential anyway. I think I just got that set because they were on sale at the time and had good specs.

I'd have upgraded the head unit but I get tired of my window getting broken and the stereo stolen, so my install is stealth and sounds good enough. The amps and crossovers are under the seat so nobody sees anything from the outside. Even the one time somebody busted out my window in DC last year (possibly what killed the speaker in that door) they didn't take anything because unless you really look, it's bare bones stock in there.

Just a quick follow up for anyone that cares. I managed to find the exact same set of component speakers new in the box at a deep discount because they are a way older discontinued model. I think i paid like $30 shipped? I'll replace the one speaker that blew out, keep the other new pieces on the shelf as spares, and take it a little easier on them in the future.

Just saying if this happens to you, you might just be patient and see what pops up out there on internet land before replacing your entire component system. This worked out well for me because I'm pretty happy with my setup (though it's just a budget system) and had no real desire to change it all out.

    Best!
