Greetings everyone. I’m new to the forums. I have a 2006 Tacoma I purchased new. Over the years I managed to over load the tail gate popping the glued struts and I noticed a tear developing in the center. Thanks to posts in the forum I purchased a reinforcement plate and a top of the gate reinforcement.

I found a replacement tailgate on eBay, which just arrived. It was pulled from a truck which had the stock back-up camera.

    Questions:
I was thinking of trying to use the camera. I have the stock radio/CD player. I’ve been thinking about replacing the radio with one that has BlueTooth so I can use my phone. I’ve been getting by with an FM transmitter. Where I live there is only one frequency I can use. So would be nice to update the radio and if I could use the back-up camera that would be another plus.

    I’m open to suggestions.
    Thanks

The factory camera is 6 volts. Imo, you will need to run new wiring from tailgate to HU so its much easier to buy an aftermarket tailgate camera thats 12v versus trying to make the oem compatible. I bought a Master Tailgater handle that came with a camera. I took that camera to fit into my popnlock handle to work with my Kenwood. Bought it off Amazon.
