replacement windshield doesn't fit

So a few weeks ago i got nailed by a rock just right and the windshield cracked about 1/4 away across my sight line. decided to go ahead and get it replaced. $400 later and we have an issue.

Guy came to my work and pulled out the replacement. was exactly like my original even with the dumb gopro mount. it also included the moldings on the side.

an hour later he calls me and asks me to come down. the windshield is installed but he tells me he had to remove the passenger side molding as the windshield did not fit with it installed. he thinks it's a defect in how it was cut. my worry is how could that honestly happen.

installed, you can see the dot matrix clearly on the drivers side from inside but the passenger side barely any. so it's definitely too wide.

they're ordering another windshield and i'll have it replaced again next monday. just curious if anyone else has had an issue like this getting their's replaced.

 

That's just BAD JUJU right there. Don't leave it parked outside until you get the right glass buddy. That sucks.

 

without the molding it clears the a-pillar and i have a full seal. drove in the rain this morning for an hour....all good.

just hope the replacement is right.

 

After market glass. Request OEM replacement.

 

i have replaced quite a few windshields I have never heard of this, amazing.

maybe they ordered the wrong year?

 

i thought that too. they said the brand was pilkington or something that makes the oem glass. not sure if that is true or not.

 

If it not then youll know the truck in wrong and then you really got problems.

I believe this is true, my side windows on my 2016 have pilkington etched into them. It’s in the bottom corner. I couldn’t see it until I got my windows tinted.

 

My friend has an 04 4runner and had his windshield replacement a few months ago the first rain he drove in the windshield leaked water into the cab down onto the rear window relay and fried it he called them back and they told him it has nothing to do with the Installl I think they don't want to admit they fawked up and pay to put another one in

 

its not going to leak, the molding has nothing to do with the way the glass is sealed, your fine.

 

Pilkington, say they make it for OE and Aftermarket. OEM will have Toyota etched into it and so on. They make multi different grade glass. If it's not etched (Toyota) in glass it's there after market.

 

correct. my concern isn't it leaking but not having the molding and technically being too big. i'll get some pictures.

 

not quite, the oem glass just has a Toyota stamp on it, glass quality is the same, you can go to auto glass places and ask for the oem equivalent. so instead of getting a benson or kyg glass you can pay a premium for a pilkinton/carlite/ yadada what ever, its just not going to have your manufacture stamp on it.

Maybe the glass was cut to 2nd gen size?

It's also possible the installer did not completely remove all the old urethane before putting in the new windshield.

 

That's not OEM glass its aftermarket that's why it doesn't fit . They say things like OEM specs but big deal look what you get . If it was Toyota glass it would fit perfectly .
