I’m glad the OP got this fixed, but for what it’s worth I’ll share my experience. My 2016 windshield cracked a few years ago. Safelite came to replace it and before starting the job, the tech told me that their replacement windshields, not Pilkington but another OEM supplier, can’t remember the name, don’t fit the 3rd gens very well. He said it was just cosmetic, with the side molding fit, but if I wanted, he would call in and confirm if my insurance would cover Toyota OE glass. He called, I was covered, but didn’t want to waste time so got the glass he had in his truck. Sure enough, it didn’t look great, but two years later I don’t notice it. No leaks, no extra wind noise. The replacement glass has the GoPro stuff, is US made by a big company but seems to be just slightly off.

Just happened on my way home yesterday. Having safelite come out to see if they can fix it. Rather not be out $1200 for a windshield.

Deduc is $1k for comprehensive. :annoyed:

Will be looking into lowering it if/after replacement is necessary.

that can be fixed but it may not last. It will be on borrowed time before it runs.

That's pushing it. Better off just getting it replaced

    How so? (serious question)

Had something similar repaired by safelite on my old F-150, lasted 3 years until I turned in the lease.

If Safelite replaces it and u go through insurance make sure it's OEM. Problem is safelite makes their own glass and it's shitty glass. Just a heads up

I had mine done by safe lite and it wasn't good! they left a gap at the top, so it was to low and the front shroud did not fit so the tech just forced it to fit breaking all plastic clips that held it secure. The tech brings it out and says nothing I look at it and noticed it didn't look right but he insist it is.This is at 6pm there closing up shop so I say ok.
But before I let anyone do work on my truck witch is almost never do I took pictures go home and look at them noticed the gap at top so I start investigating and noticed the shroud is loose find the broken pieces fell to the skid plate.

So back I went and had the proof the did replace it but it took them three week to get the shroud and the new windshield did not have a gopro mount but I just wanted it done so I said put it in .
So my concussion is if you want it done right do it your self buy OEM parts because ther out side rubber they use doesn't look stock either

I mentioned above I was having safelite take a look at it for repair, not replacement.
Same thing, never said safelite was doing the replacement.

I watched a video on the Tacoma being produced and when it came to laying in the windshield 2 guys with suction cups slapped the windshield in the truck. No robot, just 2 guys with suction cups. I did research when my windshield broke years ago.

I get ya. As for right now I have some time to think about it. We don't have a lot of money but this is a big deal, California heat plus random rain storms, not sure if the crack will get worse.

Yep. Don’t let safelite do any work if you care about your truck. Learned that one the hard way, $6500 worth of repairs later fixing what was a disaster of a $500 job.

Lots more pix but let’s just say, it required 10 days in the shop to fix the paint, dent and replace everything else they fucked up on my 6 month old truck.

I have glass coverage, 0 out of pocket when glass gets broken. I highly suggest it.

Those that are saying to go OEM obviously haven't gotten a windshield from a dealer. They basically won't do it and your insurance won't cover it. The only time you are going to get a windshield from a dealer is if it is so new or has some special coating like Nissan offered in the 80s.
