best place to go for windshield replacements are the non affiliated small mom and pop places, usually you can pay cash and they use the standard replacement glass that's available. the cost thru car insurance can prove to be way more than paying yourself with cash.

The dealer won't do glass work, but a company that does glass work can source the glass from Toyota.

I have a go pro mount on my trd and I need my windshield replaced. Does it matter if I replace with one that doesnt have it? Might be a dumb question but I haven't found anything on it. But I can get mine replaced at a local shop for 250 installed. These guys have done previous work for me and they do an awesome job.

Since when. Any glass that says sgc stands for safelite glass. I worked for them back in 2006. But guess I don't know what I'm talking bout I'll see my way out

I'm getting my windshield replaced tomorrow at a Toyota dealer. They have a third party they contract through. I talked to him and my insurance. Supposed to be getting OEM glass paid for through insurance, $250 comprehensive deductible. We'll see how that goes since it took a circle jerk of talking to various people and being on hold, etc to try to get OEM glass authorized. Thru State Farm if anybody is wondering.

i had to have mine replaced 3 months after i bought the truck....crack at the area where the rear view mirror screen hit the glass......i was quoted 1500 at the dealer and went to their 3rd party shop and got it there for 395.....i did not want the China glass and requested the Pilkington glass....it came and had a black patch over the name.....guess what, it was OEM ......the etched in name was “Toyota”.......sit was like a scratcher so I just scrapped it off.....Happy with it....Did not like the Satellite glass....was not near the quality as OEM

Dealers usually have a body shop they partner with. The same deal goes for glass. Most body shops also don't touch glass, they subcontract it to a glass place.

Some people look for the cheapest repairs, but theres a reason they are cheapest. When I was getting quotes to get my truck fixed after this disaster, I had quotes ranging from $2500 to $7000. Some shops just gouge you, no argument there, but theres also some that cut corners. Paint for example is expensive to do right and make sure that everything is blended and matches. Cut corners on paint and you are going to notice. Any good shop is going to take the time to go through everything with you in detail and have no issues telling you what they will / won't do and what they sub out and why.

when mine gets cracked or bullseyes I try to fix it with a tube of resin myself, if it doesn't hold up I run it till I need to get thru state inspection then I replace it, might as well run it with the spider cracks you could replace it prematurely and the same day catch another flying rockhttps://www.amazon.com/GlasWeld-All...T9K?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAJ2F6RDUSIYCWQMFQ

that's what I do, the $450 cash deal at the mom and pop shop when I need a new windshield best deal you can get unless you pay extra money to your insurance premium to cover windshield replacement which adds up every year out of pocket

I'm not sure exactly but it's not much. I'd say it's less than 50 a year to add it. Better then coming out of my pocket hundreds of dollars.

I have glass coverage that doesn't even require you to pay the regular deductable, it's like $50 to get a windshield replaced. Which has paid for itself many times over. Colorado throws sand/gravel down everywhere when it snow, so chipped and cracked windshields happen all the time. I've never had one last more than 3 years. Either they get cracked, or after a few years are pitted so bad that you can't see out of them.

I talking about myself taking a job with Safelite autoglass getting trained by them and doing some side business installing windshields on the side, I work in construction and a lot of times I get a layoff and need a side hustle

I don't know if Safelite owns all their locations across the country, or if they are franchises. Either way, with as many locations as they have, there's bound to be substandard techs that work there. Doesn't mean that everyone that works there is a f-up. Hopefully they paid to get your ride fixed up and for something for you to drive while that was happening. If they didn't hook you up, THAT would be a reason to trash talk them to anyone and everyone that would listen. Sometimes mistakes are made, how the mistake is dealt with is REALLY important to me.

If you want to use them, have at it. Spend some time talking to an independent glass shop and see what they have to say about them.

I could get into the training and all kinds of other things I learned about safelite during this process but it’s pretty clear none of that is important. I’m not the only one in this thread or others that has had an issue with them.

I will say they took ownership of what happened and got it fixed, but it never should have been an issue in the first place.
