Hello all. Well it happened after three brutal winters.. stock OEM battery seems to be loosing its juice and causing my truck to not start.

I want to replace the battery with the Walmart series Everstart. I DO have the tow package. From what I understand the 24F series is sufficient given that the 27F series is no longer available. Am I okay to purchase the 24F?

Do you have push button start? My mom's Rav4 has that, and it is a pain in the ass once the battery starts to die.

24F will fit. It is about the same height and width, but about 2" less length. That 2" might give you a little less reserve, but they probably have similar CCAs. If you go with the Walmart battery, make sure you buy the one that is made by Johnson Controls. Anything made by Exide should be avoided. I like the Walmart warranty. I had one fail 3 years in and got a free replacement. No hassle, no question, no receipt.

The stock size group 24 is fine as long as you don't have a huge amount of aftermarket electronics that would drain it.

Being in harsh winter, id recommend spending a little extra and getting an AGM battery - the water-based batteries lose capacity faster in extreme weather, especially if you aren't religiously maintaining them.

I believe those Everlast Batteries rank #1 on consumer reports. You'll want the model for the northern states.

So many other battery options other than WalMart, IMHO. Do your homework. AGM usually is superior to WLA (Wet Lead Acid). If your winters are as cold as you imply, the highest CCA battery that fits your vehicle is your goal. It is a lead to acid ratio thing.

I went with the Everstart MAXX. It has 775 CCA. The stock battery that came wth the truck has a measly 558 CCA. For 115$ I believe it’s a good buy. 5 year warranty. If my stock battery lasted three years @ 558 CCA stored outside in the Maine Winters I should be fine.

Also the batteries appear to be the same size. The stock battery I was provided with is labeled 24F series. So it appears the Walmart brand is superior, with a five year warranty, whereas Toyota provides 24 months.

Thanks for the suggestions all! She started right up!
