I have a 2003 Tacoma that needs brake lines and a load proportioning valve replaced due to rust. Any recommendations on whether or not using OEM valve or replacing with aftermarket. If so, which setup do you recommend?

first of all, welcome to tacoma world :)

well, it would be simpler to just remove it and bypass it. Lots of people on here have done it

If you absolutely want to put a proportional valve back, well, the only difference with an aftermarket valve is the fact that aftermarket is manually adjustable instead of automatically adjusting. You will have to place it by the master cylinder and adjust it whenever you need to.

but tell me, how is your frame? If the valve and brake lines are busted due to rust, I would be much more worried about the truck's frame in the first place...

Thank you for the welcome by the way. I am going to remove and bypass the proportioning valve. Any recommendations on replacement

The upper line is the inlet of the valve and the lower line is a return line that sends excess brake fluid and pressure back to the front brakes. Then the line on the top of the valve, facing the differential is the outlet, sending the fluid to a splitter on the axle, that then sends brake fluid to both wheels

You can get rid of this valve by connecting the upper line to the rubber line above the differential (that goes to the splitter) and plugging, or removing the lower line, as it is no longer needed (comes from a splitter located inside the driver's side wheel well)

Then you can leave it like that or add a manually adjustable proportional valve. If you do, just put it right at the master cylinder's outlet for the rear brake line.

Personally, I didn't put a valve back and haven't had any problems since

I deleted mine and my fathers due to rust on our 95s, and neither of us has had problems. We don't haul more than 3-500lbs, but no braking lockups or other hiccups, with or without a load.

Nice. Thinking I'll just eliminate the valve. Thank you
