I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

You hit the nail on the head I'm open in the front and IMO you really shouldn't lock IFS the axles just can't handle the stress. I wheel my truck as hard as you can a open IFS and haven't snapped a axle AutoZone axle.

Honestly the only CV axles I've seen brake is on a locked front end. I'm sure the OEM CV's are stronger but for the cost savings of a parts store CV and being open in the front I vote Parts store. If your locked I guess you might want OEM CV's unless you can change one as fast as me 25min timed on a 1st Gen

Yea i see no problem with aftermarket CVs..even if your locked and IFS. Cause if your locking the front on an IFS setup..you should be smart enough to be carrying an extra or two CVs..

If you are locking the IFS on these trucks, you should just save up your money for SAS....:D

nah, i know i won't sas my truck. But i'll put a front locker in it. Id rather have it just in case then not. Ill just have a Mid travel setup tho as im going for a kinda expo/trail hybrid rig.

I would still be leery about locking an IFS setup...if you use it...it will eventually brake something.

Mid travel would be sweet

    That my eventual goal.

Camburg or All Pro UCA's and Camburg or Icon C/O's with wheelers/Alcan 8 leaf pack, U bolt flip kit, and Icon Resi's in the rear

An LT rig with a locker up front and a crawl box  now that would be sweet.

About the locking the front end. If you do it, you will eventually break a CV, its just going to happen. But if you try to be careful and dont drive like a rhatard, then I dont think you would break that many and it would be worth it.

yea plus it all depends on how hard you wheel.

I thought about doing LT front and Expo rear..but i figured mid would be fine.

Badlands front bumper with a Smittybilt 8K winch, synthetic winch line. Demello sliders and bedbar. Custom rear bumper. Custom skid plates. Flex-a-lite tranny cooler with fan mounted in bed. Bilstein 5100's with SAW coils, AllPro UCAs, NW offroad rear springs (garbage), 4.88s and front and rear lockrights. Lots of custom sheetmetal work.
I have a front locker, 4.88s and 33x12.50s. I beat the living shit out of my 97. I am running aftermarket CV's Have never given me any trouble. If I do break one I will just unlock my hub and keep flogging on it. My taco is strictly a wheeler so it only ever sees a hard life. I would much rather replace a CV than replace a boot.

check one for aftermarket CV's...

what brand CV's are you running?

I dont think people realize that there are good aftermarket replacements out there...maybe not as good as OEM yota though.

    I've broken an OEM...twice

I'm running parts store CVs now and have been since before I quit wheeling...no issues with them

Its a MasterPro Select from O'Reillys. I agree with the statement about fewer fins too. I am running a LockRight up front so I am always locked when in 4hi or 4lo. I can crawl most obstacles I encounter but I will give it some hell if needed. I am lucky though in the fact that if I do break something I just need to get back to the trailer. Hopefully my good friend Digiratus will chime in too verify I treat my truck like a cheap hooker!

I would love to go to Moab and break some parts. I would not consider it a good trip if I did not come home with broken parts! Can we make it back in I day?
