Long story short, my current 4.0L threw some rod bearings at 120k and is being replaced by a used motor. 50k miles out of an 09 Taco that was hit in the rear and totaled. It was running earlier today before they pulled it, and I asked to get the specs on the compression test on my invoice (I will be doing a compression/leakdown test myself before installing). Motor comes with 90 day warranty, covering everything except overheating.

Thinking I'm going to take the opportunity to do some maintenance on the motor that will arrive tomorrow before it goes in. Any suggestions other than the following?:

    Water pump
    T-stat
    Spark plugs
    Clean throttle body
Exhaust manifold gaskets (reusing my manifolds)
    Recharge AC (reusing mine)
    Flush Radiator (reusing mine)
Flush transmission (I'm due for it)

I know I'm missing some things, just too late to think, and my engine is coming out tomorrow. Already got everything ready to yank it out, just need to divorce from the trans and remove motor mounts.

    Thanks

I don't have any suggestions, but if you could post some pics of the process it would be cool to see.

    Thanks!

I wouldn't change the thermostat, personally. The one coming out of the truck is known to work. When you put a new one in, even though it's "new" and should theoretically work perfectly, it might not. When dropping in a motor I think the less potential "unknowns" the better.

To add to your list, maybe power steering flush?

Keep an eye out for your oil level because one day 3.5 quarts of it might just vanish. :frusty:

Wouldn't hurt to check the valve clearance since you have the engine out. New serpentine belt?

This, I personally wouldn't change a thing (from the engine) since it was running. Once it's all in and you've done the other stuff I'd start the maintence on it. Btw, I noticed yours is a 2010 but engine is an 09...... No smog?

Long story short his intake manifold somehow decided to go 7-11 Super Gulp on his oil and thus his missing 3.5 quarts with the remaining 2 in where they should be in the engine.

    Regardless, engine fuckery ensued.
