What gen 4 runner? When you say metal cap are you referring to the top of the ram? Could you not do the same with the 2nd gen jack or is the ram just too large a diameter?

Not sure which gens. Part number is 09111-35150. It is very slightly shorter than the Tacoma jack and has a slightly higher capacity.

Yes. The central tube of the jack has a metal cap on it which is larger in diameter than the tube itself. You need to remove that cap so the Safe Jack accessories can fit over the tube itself. Drilling out the dimples that hold the cap on and tapping it off with a hammer is pretty easy.

The ram itself (that inner most tube) is just too large a diameter even with the cap on top removed. You can get the 4runner jacks on E-bay and then put your 2nd Gen Tacoma jack on E-bay yourself for a low cost swap.

Details here in my build thread.

Have you got to use it yet? If so how do you like it? Have one on my Amazon list but still have not bought it. Still have about 2300 miles to put on my truck before I will need to rotate my tires. (Like to have 2 of these jacks)

It works, but not like a floor jack. You sort of have to push the bottle down a bit to get it started when letting it down

Would like to ask for follow-up review that you have had the Safe Jack (SafeJack) for about 4 yrs now.

ive always been worried about highlift jacks. seen or read to many horror stories. That Safejack is pretty cool, i wonder if it will fit where the factory one sits.

How did you get the cap off the jack? I have a 4Runner one and I can't get that cap off to save my life. I'm thinking I have to break out the drill or something.

On mine there were a few small dimples around the edge that held the cap onto the shaft. I did drill out the dimples and then was able to tap the cap off pretty easily with a hammer and old screw driver.

Raising this thread up from the dead --

    For the OEM Tacoma / 4runner screw-style jack with one-piece welded/stamped construction --

How do you grease this in such a way that the grease actually gets to where it needs to go, i.e. the screw threads on the inner mechanism?

I thought about that and I tried some things --

The chuck of a 1/2" standard cordless drill fits perfectly over the open (female) end of one of the extension rods. Probably better to use a plain drill vs. an impact to save excess wear on the threads inside of the jack. Cordless drill works very well for raising & lowering, including under load. Use one hand on the drill and the other hand to steady the turning rod. Also works great for raising/lowering the spare tire.

I haven't tried it but word on the street is that a standard 3/8" square ratchet chuck fits inside the female end of one of the extension rods. Again YMMV as using an impact on this might start to round out or deform the inside of the extension rod end.

How often do you guys use your stock jack? I’ve used mine once in 7 years and only because I got myself stuck on a pile of mud with no pre-planning. Combined with various pieces of wood in the area, it saved the day.
