    ABS sucks.
I have a short window of opportunity to change out my rusted chrome front facebar tomorrow. How much time is typically needed to swap it out with hand tools? If I can't finish it, I shouldn't start it...

    Thanks!

There isnt a lot to it, a couple brackets holding it to the frame. Just have to swap the lower plastic valence too.

gradually replacing the bumper with hairy bondo ;-)
Elderly thread, I suppose you could follow it up yourself by now...

Given it's rusted, short window of opportunity would not be a good match, in my experience (not over yet, taking a break.) Folks from areas with "cosmetic" rust or "what's rust?" can probably do it quickly. I started putting penetrating oil on the mounting bolts 4 days ago, and only got the expletive thing off today, since the Left side mounting bolts were frozen but good - took a couple sessions with a propane torch before they budged, and one left its threads in the nut at that. Hammer-driven impact driver wouldn't budge them.

Now that it's off the truck, getting the plastics off the facebar to put on the new facebar is going to be a tedious pain involving an angle grinder, as about 2 of them were actually able to be unscrewed. The rest are shapeless lumps that won't simply fall off, but can't be grabbed with a wrench or vise grips. Then it will be trip to the stainless steel section at the hardware store, as this is obviously something Toyota does poorly, at least for my area, so the Toyota parts won't be getting bought for it. I guess a can of undercoating might be a wise investment as well.

    Pretty much stock right now
I did mine some years ago, and had similar issues. The non-chome replacement was plasti-dipped both sides. It's holding up well.

Your gonna find rust you never expected to find. I did mine and wish I would have just bought the kit with all the little clips and stuff. would a been way easier than working around all the rust I encountered.
