Has anyone ever removed the headliner and put new fabric on? I am actually looking at adding a fabric that can actually hold velcro. Something strong enough to hold patches as well as possibly the Built Right Industries MOLLE panels I have linked below.

What do you guys think would be a good fabric to do this with? Preferably a black/dark material.

I may just have to try to find a second headliner and test it out with that in case I mess it up lol. Still trying to think of what material would work the best.

Newer headliners are form fitted. Older styles, like a 32 coupe or 66 Cadillac, have pieces that hold the material in place.

The way I see it, you have a couple options (probably more that I’m not thinking of). Pull down the headliner and use an upholstery glue to glue some loop (velcro) to the places you want. Or the easier way, use rivets to attach your panels. Maybe even just glue it to hard cardboard or a light weight piece rigid material of your choice, then secure that in place.

I don’t do upholstery myself but grew up helping the old man in his shop. He’s been doing auto interior for 40 years.

You could always use needle and thread and sew some Velcro panels up.
