Replacing inverter in armrest for 400W Pure Sinewave one?

Has anyone by chance either swapped the inverter in the armrest or looked into the wiring schematics to see how easily it could be done?

I'd ideally like to swap my stock (simulated sinewave) inverter for a RedArc Pure Sinewave inverter or something so that I could charge my jackery in the bed.

Has anyone looked up the wiring schematic to see if it would be as easy as swapping out the existing inverter with some minor cable splicing?

My 2 cents, it would be simpler to just wire up the RedArc inverter separately. I'm not sure the RedArc would even fit in the original inverters place.

Obviously anything is possible, but to get the button on the dash to work and such, I think it'd add a whole lot of complication over just running the proper cabling to wherever you decided to install it.

Also, if it's just to install a jackery, what about using a DC-DC charger instead? that might be more efficient instead of going from 12v > 110V > 12v again.

Many of these lithium battery packs require pure sine wave, so even 400w doesn't cut it. It simply won't pull any power from a non pure sine inverter.

I posted that because there are inverter wiring diagrams in that thread.

He’ll have to scroll the thread- OP wanted wiring info and there are some in there.

Edit: @YF_Ryan You are right though, not using a pure sinewave inverter wreaks havoc on electronics. They are only good for motors- like while camping with a good old fashioned blender on the beach in San Felipe Mexico! :proposetoast:

I use my stock one for also for an electric chainsaw to clear trail branches and cutting firewood.

Jackery is limited to around 100w at 12v

Oh, you must just be running a small one. 500 perhaps?

Actually... the 500 has the same max whether on 110v or 12v... what unit do you have?

    Input:2 x DC 8mm Ports: 12-16V(Working Voltage)⎓8A Max, Double to 8A Max; 16-60V(Working Voltage)⎓10.5A Max, Double to 21A/400W Max

I've confirmed even doubling up on 12v, it's capped to approx 100w
I've tried to power it with a 24v power supply but it'll try to pull more then 10.5a from a single input which is odd.

Those jackery batteries convert ac to DC. Power "dirtiness" is a non issue. I would bet a non-zero amount of money that your "pure" sinewave inverter isnt "pure" on a scope anyway.

It's a known issue on several brands of Power Stations. This topic has come up a lot of times on TW that the inverter won't charge a power station, while otherwise being well within spec.

To get 12v nominal cheaply, the jackery boxes use 4.3 Li batteries so they have to have a stepdown for output and step up for charge. I'm sure the stepup charge board has a low C due to heat .

Well, it's not "dirty power" but believe whatever you'd like. See other reply above. Did you scope the inverter?

Interesting. Yeah, I woulda thought the 24v or even a 48v converter like the Orion TR DC-DC 12/48-8 woulda worked. I've heard it works on some brands.

Just to add here, it's the power stations that don't have a standalone separate power brick that does the conversion, that usually have the issue. Usually these are the smaller, cheaper power stations. Not the big ones with 500w supplies ( that' won't work with the taco simply for being too high of wattage).

Ecoflow and jackery both have this issue with any of their systems that I know of?
