I am looking to replace my 2019 OEM Head Unit with a (potentially) OEM non-JBL one from a 2021. End goal is to get CarPlay.

Is this plug and play or are there any gotchas with going from JBL to non-JBL?

I can only see threads with folks going the opposite way.

    Any info would be appreciated!

Visit Crutchfield. This site will tell you everything you need to do. I changed out my JBL head unit for a Kenwood while retaining all the JBL speakers and factory controls & settings. Crutchfield site will walk you through what is needed. Just keep in mind the cost may add up to $250 in adapters and modules over the cost of the head unit...

Thanks, but that does not really help me. I am looking to go from an OEM JBL to an OEM non-JBL. I am not looking at an aftermarket head unit.

I thought the JBL was the best so why go to non JBL. I would not know the difference as my 2021 has a non JBL.just saying

It will not just be a head unit swap. The jbl systems completely different wiring setup than non jbl radios.

Thanks, besides a wiring harness, would anything else be needed like an AMP, etc?

Well your jbl system currently is setup where the headunit sends everything to the jbl amp, from there the jbl amp is wired straight to the door speakers. So if you can wire the non jbl headunit to send the correct signal to the jbl amp you should be fine. You are probably better off sourcing a jbl headunit if I am being honest

Thanks. Honestly have not seen any for sale. The non-JBL one I ran across, but will keep looking.

Did you ever figure out the answer to this question? I'm trying to do the same thing, essentially downgrade from JBL system in my 2017 and get a non JBL stock headunit from a 2020+ since they're way more abundant on sites like eBay and a helluva lot cheaper too.

can you install the radio? yes
    will it output audio? no

you'd need to install the oem-side non-jbl speaker wiring harness, and then run speaker wiring to every speaker location, as well as install the non-jbl speakers for the entire thing to work.

Appreciate the input. So in the end, it doesn't sound very worth it for all the work that needs to go into getting it working properly.
