I am shopping this week for a replacement for my totaled 2G DCLBSport. I found the same truck in a 2017 DCLBSport. Mileage is just north of 64,000 and it seems well maintained. Anything in particular to look out for? Thanks

Drive it, drive it, and drive it some more. Folks hatted on the auto trans and it’s poor shifting, then folks complained of lack of low end grunt.

That being said, I’m happy with my truck, but I do miss my 4 cylinder 09.

That is what I fear most, missing my 09 4.0

The poor shifting “““issue””” as people would like to call it, the truck was BUILT/TUNED that way for fuel efficiency. There is nothing wrong with the truck itself. I came from a 2009 4runner (same engine 4.0 as the 2nd gen Taco) and was more pleased with the performance of the 3rd gen Tacoma hands down. Good luck with your decision!

I just came out of a 2012 DCSB Sport. I had it for 8 years. Traded it in on a 2020 AG Pro. I've only had this truck about 6 weeks so I don't have much to go on.
As far as the transmission goes, I heard the 2020's had the shifting problem resolved. I'm not sure if mine is different than the 16-19's.
But it does like to shift more than my 2nd Gen. Not really in town but more out on the highway. And it may just be the torque converter locking and unlocking. As far as power goes. This 3.5 seems more peppy than my 2nd Gen. And I've never had it above 4,000 rpm's. Overall I like the truck. Mileage is better, ride is better. But the interior does seem to be more cheaply made.

This thing has the Tech package and all the bells and whistles (+ sunroof) except for leather. So it is a step up from the 09. Thanks

Ask about TSB 62-18. If from a dead stop, you gun it, the engine "lurches" forward, pauses for a second while it hunts for a gear, then takes off, then you need TSB 62-18 applied and it will disappear. That was the mechanical "issue" I've experienced and was easily fixed.

I went from a 2013 to a 2017 and have no complaints bought both new. If going used be best to find one that hasn’t been molested by its owner with aftermarket accessories as you never know until after the fact if they were done right.

Was in my second generation 08 for 10+ years, it was a four-cylinder five-speed access cab four-wheel-drive. Loved the truck - in fact we passed it along to our son.
Bought my 17 dcsb Sport auto as an off lease vehicle, tech package and navigation.....I wouldn't go back.

I would still be driving it but his German Curse (VW) finally called it, with him still being in college it just made sense for him to be in a more reliable vehicle. The irony is, he was with me the day I picked up the 08' at the dealer. Made me very happy to give it to him.

Thanks for the tip about the bed rail. I still have access to the truck for at least another week. I will nab the front rail
