Replacing rear chrome bumper

Decided I'd go ahead and jump in with both feet and replace my chrome bumpers with color keyed oem bumpers. Found a guy online who you can buy the bumper from and have it painted and shipped for $329. Below are some pics of what I've done so far.

Right now I'm waiting on one of the plastic pieces to dry. When I took one of the pieces off it looked like one of the clips had a stress fracture so I put some epoxy on it. Waiting for it to dry then I will install the rest of the bumper pieces.

I just took mine off and coated it with plasti-dip, turned out great cost $12.

 

Will post the finished product here shortly.

 

I did the same as well before buying a painted bumper. Give it about 8 to 9 months. The plasti dip will fade from the sun and become this chalky matte color that doesn't look so good.

Edited: But I didn't take my bumper off. Just taped everything off then sprayed with plasti dip.

 

I found those plastic end caps to be a real hassle to remove without breaking, I broke them

 

No joke. That's the plastic piece that I pulled too hard on and almost tore the plastic clip off. Idk why Toyota made them so hard to take off. Everything else just pops right off.

Nice!! I really wanted to color keyed bumpers that the Sport has but the TRD Off Road is what I wanted. Figured I could just replace them at a later date with color keyed bumpers. Didn't think I'd be replacing them this soon but didn't feel like waiting any longer.

 

These are the pieces that were a b*tch to take off. Went ahead and just decided to epoxy around all 4 clips for extra support.

 

Looks nice bro! I wanted to do the same, I hate chrome!! was going to plast-dip, but was fortunate enough to find someone selling an SR5 flat black bumper for 60 bucks with all the plastics in tact.

 

Wish I could have found the same in MGM.

It's all surface rust. I keep both the hitch and ball greased but there's no way to keep it from getting some surface rust over time. I've had that 2 inch ball for about 13 years now.

Edit: Not to mention I never take it off to store in my garage.
