Replacing Rearview Mirror - 1st Generation Tacoma

Hey guys,

Does anyone have a tutorial video or guidance on how to remove the stock 1st gen tacoma rearview mirror? My current mirror is starting to peel around the edges and I'd like to make it look nicer, but I'm uncomfortable just prying at the headlight console without doing some research. Thank you!

P.S. I unscrewed the screw behind the rearview mirror, and discovered that's not how you remove it... By doing that, I couldn't get the original short screw to screw back in, so I found a longer screw of the same diameter and was able to make it work. Of course, now it wont click back and fourth into regular/tilted down mode because I've done something wrong. Oh well, I guess that wont matter because I plan on replacing it anyway.

@1997tacomav6 do you just pry off the light housing?

 

Yeah you just kind of pry it off and give it a firm tug. I pry from the back of it just in case I scratch anything it won’t be seen later on. Just make sure you’re not under the metal part of the light when you pry.

 

Yup, just pops off wirh a little prying possibility
