Around the old seal there was some gasket sealer.

Is it necessary for me to use sealer again? Or did the previous owner only do this as a temporary fix, and now the seal by itself will be sufficient?

If I had some I would just use it to be safe rather than sorry. But it's now a PITA to get to a store.

Please let me know if what I'm asking is unclear.

    Thanks for your help.

oh and just a reminder don't use the ones from autozone or whatever they suck. within a few months mine started to seep from those seals.

Thanks for the replies. That's kind of what I figured and just went with it.

Got the seals from rock auto.

I had oil on my first and fourth...no misfires but it just bothered me. Once I took the valve cover off I saw that the first and fourth didn't have gasket sealer going all the way around...second and third did. So the problem was pretty clear.

    Thanks again for the help.
