I'm planning on replacing my failing stock exhaust system with a performance one, and wondered if swapping out the manifolds with headers would be worth it. How much hp would headers actually add to a 6cyl vs replacing from the manifolds?

That's exactly where I'm coming from. I don't have the money. My exhaust will have to be replaced soon and I'd just like to get the most out what I've got. (I know it's only a 6cyl)

I use my truck for everything. Daily driver, landscape projects, hauling, 4 wheeling. It's my third Tacoma and I've put them to the test on occasion. They're great trucks. Somehow I have a hole developing in my exhaust pipe where a hanger broke off. I'm sure I hit something for this to happen. So if I'm going to replace the system anyways I thought I'd see what my options are. I always like to make any bolt on repairs an improvement when possible.

Torspeed had a post about a brand of new headers. Only ones I would buy. Find it. Pricy.

for a catback, check out the dynomax kit with "ultra flo" muffler, sounds awesome.

if you're looking for headers/y pipe and want to stay cheap, you could check out the OBX package on ebay that copy doug thorley's design. As mentioned above, the URD equal length headers are going to be the best you can buy but are very expensive.

i agree about obx being cheap, which scares me to take the plunge and buy them. Should probably just save up and buy the good stuff from URD lol.

No money, daily driver, little to no performance gain, take to a muffler shop weld on hanger patch hole good for another 100 k total cost around $25 Of course you will not get that deep v8 rumble but you wont get with headers either.

I've been on the fence about what to do and Bubbabub is dead on! Thanks for suggesting a smart, inexpensive way to go. I'll spend the money on something I NEED to do. And THANKS TO ALL for their input. It's much appreciated!
