New Tacoma owner, first post, bear with me! Just bought a 2019 TRD Off-Road and the fogs are dull and decided to start researching options, I've read the comprehensive crashanburn80 threads and others but I'm still confused about the topic. I found some inexpensive fog light bulbs on Amazon which said "compatible with your tacoma if used in fogs" (Auxito LED B3F H11) and decided to try them out for fun since they're cheap and it's an easy quick replacement. They look good and are much brighter but I'm also reading the "they'll blind other drivers" or "won't perform as well as halogen" posts. I've seen other posts that say they're fine.

I'm new to this and can easily switch them back or get some upgraded high-performance halogen bulbs instead but wanted to see if these issues are still the case or or if newer LED bulbs are ok in this application. Thanks!

Your money is much better spent upgrading your lowbeams, and adding driving lights, than fog lamps, given how infrequently fogs should really be used.

*IF* your vehicles oem fogs use the H11, there are good upgrade options. I'd suggest a +rated performance H11 with as little blue coloration on the bulb envelope as possible. Then, get some Kapton film tape (it's available in sheets and rolls of varius sizes) and adhere it to the lenses. It'll hold up well and correctly filter to selective yellow, will withstand the heat of the lens, and peels off cleanly when or if you want to remove it.

Don't use an H9. There's no glare cap, so it won't have a cutoff, and will be excessively bright for oncoming traffic. The lack of a cutoff and the ensuing flood effect will also hamper your vision in poor weather.

If your fogs use the H16 bulb, there really is no effective upgrade bulb available. The H16 has a *similar* base and filament position to an H11, but it's a much lower output bulb with much looser filament placement specs compsred to a headlamp bulb. You can pick up a set of '19 (if i remember correctly) or earlier model year H11 fogs for fairly cheap. I believe there's also a higher performance h11 halogen fog with a different part number for the same model years but don't quote me on that.

Baja Designs: Squadron® SAE LED Lights - Baja Designs - Off-Road LED & Laser Lights | Automotive, Jeep, Truck, UTV, ADV, Dirtbike or Squadron Pro - Baja Designs - Off-Road LED & Laser Lights | Automotive, Jeep, Truck, UTV, ADV, Dirtbike or Squadron Sport - Baja Designs - Off-Road LED & Laser Lights | Automotive, Jeep, Truck, UTV, ADV, Dirtbike I use the Pro's and just don't use them except off road. Legally fog lights are to be used the same as high beams (turned off when within 500ft of another vehicle. So I just use the ones that will do the best job possible.

Those are not fogs and should never be used in place of fogs.

You are also incorrect about how fogs are required to be used. Real fogs, that is.

Toyota Squadron-R SAE Fog Pocket Light Kit - Toyota 2010-24 4Runner; 2012-23 Tacoma; 2014-21 Tundra - Baja Designs - Off-Road LED & Laser Lights | Automotive, Jeep, Truck, UTV, ADV, Dirtbike Laws do vary from state to state but as you know from the factory if your fog lights are on, and you turn your high beams on the fog lights will turn off. It is best to check with your specific state laws. Now would law enforcement do anything not likely unless they are looking for a reason to pull you over. But as you stated "real fogs, that is" don't usually draw attention since most every newer vehicle has them and what brings us hear. Factory fog lights are useless.
