Have a 2012 tacoma w stock(crappy)stereo. No steering wheel controls. Saw several JBLs on craigslist from newer toyota trucks. Question is will this work w/o to much rewiring? Maybe a new harness?

It can be done. The JBL system uses very few wires between the JBL head unit and the JBL amplifier, however you will need the panel for the back wall that the JBL came with.... don't think its an easy task to modify the stock one ;)

The bigger problem you will face is you will have to rewire all your speakers to the JBL amp instead of the head unit. By this point, you might have well just bought a nice new amplifier and gone for that route, because it will certainly sound alot better.

IMO, I got rid of my JBL system because it sounded marginally better than stock, but it ultimately still sucked if you like turning it up.
