I have a 2003 with 235,000 miles. I'm trying to replace the tailgate cables but neither of the bolts will budge using my 1/3 hp electric drill and a Phillips bit (in reverse of course!). I'd appreciate any advice.
    Thanks!

Got an impact screwdriver and a BFH? That's how I got mine off. I'm afraid a drill won't have the umph you need. The impact driver and hammer will shock the bolt and with a couple of good blows it should loosen up.

Good call. Sometimes some heat will help. Also some penetrating oil night before. Kroil pretty good reviews. You can slso trash a screwdriver by hammering in to realign Phillips. Leave screwdriver in and attach visegrips down low,try to turn screwdriver and visegrips one hand on screwdriver and other on visegrips. It worked perfectly for me. Still got every part!lol

You can find them at O'reilly Auto Parts if you have a store close by. They're Dorman tailgate support cables, part #38531 comes with new screws and are 14 9/16" long.

Good find and Thanks! I have been cleaning my truck up a bit. The cables are one of the items on my list.

I replaced a broken one as well on my '01. I broke the bolt head as it was so ceased. Ended up drilling it out then tapping it to fit a new bolt. Was a great excuse to finally buy a tap and die set (was on sale at Canadian Tire for $40).
