replacing tailgate emblems

Hey all,

I've seen a couple threads discussing 1st gen emblems, particularly the absurd prices for OEM tailgate emblems. I'm trying to find a relatively inexpensive way to get some original looking emblems for my Taco, and am wondering if anyone has any experience removing and re-applying emblems.

I'm thinking of buying a tailgate from a part out, and then removing the emblems to put on my tailgate. Are they east to take off without damaging? Possible to re-apply to a clean tailgate? What kinds of adhesives you'd use? Any ideas would be appreciated!

I know this is a lot of work just for some silly emblems!

The emblems are made from a soft silicone material and once they’re off they’ll never go back on right. You can still buy the emblems from Toyota, for about $100 for the set. Ish.

If you want something cheaper, you can get 2nd Gen Tacoma emblems which are a hard plastic and can be re-applied.

Yeah that was my concern, thanks for clarifying. The 1st gen 'TOYOTA' & 'TACOMA' emblems are still available from Toyota? I was under the impression that only the 'PRERUNNER SR5' ones were still being made, which was why the full sets are going for $1k on ebay.

If anyone can direct me to where they're available that would be great! or the slim chance anyone has a set they'd be willing to sell...

 

those actually look really clean. wanted to try to find a set of emblems but if i can't i might go with those!
