Ok. First of all, I'm an A/V & PC hardware nerd. I have enough spare parts laying around to build three extra gaming PCs, though very little of that hardware will be utilized in this build.

    The idea is pretty simple:
    - replace the factory HU with a large touchscreen monitor that'll rotate 90° to get out of the way of the heat controls when needed.
    - connect the screen to a mini-ITX PC that's mounted somewhere safe like the glove box or back seat storage.
    - set up android OS environment to run apple carplay
    - figure out how to integrate idatalink or something to interface with/ retain the vehicle settings
    - retain factory BT mic/ antenna/ BU camera/ USB + aux ports

This is the plan. I'll update the thread as I get into it, and I'm curious if anyones already gone down this road - what worked, what didn't, was it worth it etc...

All I really want is to add wireless carplay to the stock radio and I'd be fine, but since that's not an option, why not go big...

Just following up to close this out. I've found that there are plenty of prefab options that will do a better job than what I'm trying to put together.
