So I'm going to try isntall my Lathewerks knob into the new(er) Taco.

I used the rubber grommet method to secure the silver-colored plastic boot clip on the shifter. I hated the way it looked. I try not to be too vain, but then again I spent the money on a flashy blued stainless shift knob, the plastic boot clip just ruined it for me.

    Any alternatives out there?

I did end up zip-tying the shift boot to the shifter after removing the plastic clip, but this too somehow looked a little off to me...

Assuming there's no alternative to the zip-tie, any tips on how/where to mount it on the shifter for a clean look?

Did you ever find a resolution to this plastic twist-lock on your shifter-boot? On mine, the two clips that keep the boot attached are broken, and the boot keeps falling off the shift knob. I'd be willing to buy another boot if there is one available......

Just sand and paint the clip. It then blends with the grommet and boot becoming nearly forgotten:

I didn't mind it being chrome with the stock knob because I never really saw it. Something had to be done with the knob that I made.

Tonered - What is that that you used to fill in the gap between the shifter and "bezel"? It almost looks like a felt cymbal washer from a drum kit cymbal stand. Now that I think of it, that could be shaved down I suppose, to fill the space to prevent it from rattling during shifts.

That's the HomeDepot rubber grommet that gets mentioned a lot:

You have to trim off the bottom flange.

There is also a pack of six of these where the zip ties are.

    none yet/none planned! It's perfect!
Get an Everbilt 3/4" Black rubber grommet #588 739 from Home Depot. Works perfect.
