    whats up everybody,
I just got an 04 Tacoma stock. I already bought my rough country 6” lift kit but I was wondering instead of putting in the spacers on the existing springs. Would it be possible to put coilovers up front with the rough country kit? Would I still have the same 6” lift? Would it give couple more inches if so should I add extra leaf for the back? I don’t mind going higher. Lmk what should I do
    Thanks

Well, for starters, you are replacing a majority of the critical suspension components on your truck with the cheapest kit on the market. There is a reason other 6" kits cost double, or triple what this one does.

That kit cuts just about every corner possible in order to minimize costs. Instead of using redesigned spindles and upper/lower control arms, it simply uses spacers that attach the upper ball joint to the spindle which increase the leverage on those components which will negatively affect the reliability of those parts.

If you are on a budget and want to lift your truck, stick to a 3" lift or less. 3" kits are less "invasive" (don't need to hack up your frame/cross members to install) and for the SAME price, you actually end up with a higher performance suspension system. Sure, you might need to do a little hammering on your fenderwells to fit 33's, but a hammer costs like $10 at Home Depot, lol...

Other advantages to a 3" lift is that your center of gravity is lower, which is what you want for off-roading. Those sky-high trucks tend to tip over and roll more easily. Even a moderately well designed 3" suspension system with good coil overs and good springs will out perform *any* 6" lift on the market.

If you only have about $800 to spend on your suspension, I would suggest this setup:
(these links may NOT be exactly what fits your truck, just examples):

    Bilstien 5100s on all 4 corners. - $175 - $165

    OME 882 Coils: - $180 $380

    That's $900(ish)

You could save some cash by getting an add-a-leaf and maybe a shackle instead of an entire new leaf pack. Another way to save money is to re-use your stock coil springs and use the 5100s to to the lifting.

@Lcedric we aren't trying to be mean here (at least I'm not, lol), even though we are throwing some laughs around.

I'm not your mom here, so I'm not going to tell you not to run this kit. You just need to have appropriate expectations for what this kit is. i.e. it's the cheapest kit you can buy.

It's just that we see these kits a lot. They are quite honestly more trouble than they are worth. It's designed to re-use your stock coilovers, so literally the only thing this kit does for you is make your center of gravity higher. YOu can fit 35's with far less lift (though you do have to trim the fenders). With a 6" lift, you end up with alignment issues, the drive line angles are screwy and you even risk pulling the rear driveline out at full extension. And because it uses a block lift in the back, you tend to get bad axle wrap too.

Real question; why do you need 6" of lift?

Optimal lift for our trucks is 2"-3"; this works exceptionally well for off-roading as our trucks are plenty capable. Add in some quality tires, the ability to air up on demand, and you're ready for the trails you didn't think you could conquer.

Even stock Tacoma's fair pretty well.

    Spend 3 grand:
    https://fabtechmotorsports.com/product/6-performance-system-w-performance-shocks-k7002/

This kit STILL uses a block lift in the back, and the shocks are at best "okay" shocks.

A better question is why do you need a 6" lift?

Give me 3 grand and I'll design you a pretty bad ass 2-3" system that will run circles around any 6" lift.

True, but I didn't think you could buy those any more, can you?

The ONLY way I would lift a Tacoma 6 inches is with a solid axle swap.

You can make any Tacoma very capiible with just 3 inches of lift.
