If you can live with the flaws of the stock Entune system but want to significantly enrich your sound, plug and play installation, and retain the stock look .... look here: https://oemaudioplus.com/toyota/tcd...JshXvaxZp0UHFmiVr6ABcnug18X-b-9BoCs1oQAvD_BwE. It is not cheap, but it doesn't take an engineer to install and the sound quality is top notch.

If you can't live with the crappy navigation, lockups, and general malaise of stock entune, there are a ton of head unit options, as well as speaker/amp options. This route is much more complicated, but there are a half dozen threads here to discuss many.

if you own an SR its in your best interest to upgrade the head unit and it does open up menu's in the dashboard for those of us with 19+ models

The only issue is I've yet to see a single aftermarket head unit that truly does everything the OEM unit does without a dozen add on modules, external mic, workaround apps etc...

Most will do 90% but you lose Sirius, or your phone mic, or one steering wheel control just won't work etc...

Its a custom taylored solution, added modules are part of the equation considering you are taking a generic unit and asking it to do specific things. But i get a unit that does 10x more. Custom display gauges, Added tire pressure readouts, EGT, in addition to the ability to add on Amps, sub's at the ease of just RCA outputs which allow added control of the amplifiers.

added on mic and other things can be handed in ways that can appear oem as i have done but it does take effort (if DIY) or money to pay others to do it

I understand but I've still yet to see any one unit that retains everything factory.

What did you go with that maintains all wheel functions, gauge display info, etc ?

Since the SR doesnt come with alot of the features that the SR5 and upper trims i gained alot of functions. I went with Masetro for all the functions. Just one module.

An iData capable headunit with a Maestro RR will maintain your factory steering wheel controls and allow you to customize them.

The Maestro RR unit will also provide CANBUS data to any headunit that accepts the input for TPM, as well as standard PIDS that report electronically as guages.

I have used both Android PX5 and PX6 based models as well as the new Pioneer WC6600 (current unit in my truck). I have full access to all of the standard settings controlled by my head unit.

I’m sorry, it wasn’t broke but I fixed it anyway.

All plug and play and retains all factory components including steering wheel buttons, apple car play/android auto, rear view camera, browse the internet, watch the news plus much more which I didn’t expect from this aftermarket unit.

The stereo also enhanced my oem audio plus sound system as it has DSP that I can adjust to my liking.

I’m thinking about doing a group buy after I get the same unit in my 4Runner because oem is garbage.

    To each their own.

Maybe my ignorance with OEM in-car Nav systems is showing but I’ve been pretty happy and even impressed with the Nav in my ‘20 OR. It even shows many of the unimproved forest roads I like to play around on in the mountains, which I like. I have had a couple of issues with the live traffic randomly not working (that was fun the last time I drove across LA) but re-starting the system seems to take care of it.

For comparison, a friend of mine has a ‘20 Ranger with the FX4 package (very comparable to my TRD OR) and his Nav system basically shows no off-road trails. To the point that he stuck a Garmin to his windshield.

The sound quality isn’t the greatest but I generally have the radio off if I have a passenger with me.

I am extremely happy with my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport Premium with HD Sirius Radio and the Navigation system works great and so does the back up camera.

    I am running the Dasaita.
As mentioned, it supports wireless Carplay, so you can enjoy the benefits while remaining an Apple guy.
My neighbor pushes Apple like a crack dealer pushes rocks, and he's running an Android head unit in his Land Cruiser. :)
