i have a 2015 2-WD Extra cab with 15” wheels that look anemic. I have some 17” Acura mag-type wheels that fit and look better. How big can I go with 17” tires to fill up the wheel wells without causing clearance problems with the sheet metal? Advice appreciated.

They may fit lug wise, but it's doubtful they are the same width / offset, which will have more to do than the diameter in terms of tire clearances.

A 235 75 15 is the largest you can go on your OE wheels for a problem free fit, which is 2" dia increase / 1" ground clearance over the OE 215s.

You can get some clues from the Tire Calculator by using the 235 as a comparison basis.

Also, the 5 lug forum is a good place to look at choices folks have made.

X Runners came with 18 x 8 5 lug wheels, so you might check out their specs for some fitment clues.
