I've been shimmying. I hit it with a rubber mallet a few times as well. I did have it in 4wd and didn't turn it off until after I had stopped, maybe that could have something to do with it.

Mines a prerunner so its 2wd. I know 4wd's have a slip yoke, this being the main difference in the (rear) driveshaft. Maybe it has something to do with this? Sorry I cant be of more assistance. Good luck!

For the rear driveshaft i believe there is 3, but there are 2 on the front driveshaft, so 5 total for a 4wd

Great thread, going to be changing out my U joints on my prerunner this week, ordered the Spicer 5-1330-1X so waiting for them to arrive and get my ducks in order with a U joint press, grease, etc.

One question I have is does it make a difference if your transmission is in Park or Neutral? I will be chocking all 4 wheels but was wondering if having it in neutral would make pulling the driveshaft out of the transmission easier?

    Thanks

Its not going to make a difference if the wheels are on the ground. The only thing it will do is spin if theyre up in the air. Pulling the driveshaft out of the tranny shouldnt be too hard, just start at the rear diff and then work your way forward. Obviously reinstalling it is going to be the complete opposite. Make sure you mark the drive shaft with a paint pen or sharpie so you get it put together the same way so its balanced

I appreciate the offer and reply, it seems pretty straightforward with the right tools. Any reason why someone would replace the center support bearing as well at the same time if it doesn't have play?

A paint pen is what you need too use for marking on the driveline.

I've got a tube of Lucas X-tra heavy duty grease I was going to use to fill the Zerk fittings on the U joints, is this a good grease or is there something others are using in their U joints?

I have had the same problem, driveshaft wont come out of the transmission. What did you do to get it out?

Sorry, just seen this. I just unbolted it. This reminds me though. I received a letter from the dealership pertaining to u joints. They’ll replace them or cover the cost of past repairs.
