ive been driving around a 2017 RAV4 rental the past couple weeks since my 3rdgen is in the lot waiting for the rear differiential recall parts.

Today a trailer kicked back a rock and chipped the windshield pretty bad. I went to Toyota today to inform them and they told me I have to pay to get the whole windshield replaced or contact my insurance.

I don't want to contact my insurance due to my deductible being $500
But is there any other alternatives?
Can I make the case that this wouldn't have happen if My third gen wouldn't have been recalled since it does drive higher?IMG_1909.jpgIMG_1910.jpg

Sucks but that's why you have insurance. You get what you pay for when it comes to your policy.

And I don't think you have any kind of argument regarding your truck being in the shop

Are you sure you have a full deductible for a windshield? I've never heard of that.

Exactly. I've never paid for a windshield. If you have comprehensive coverage (which you should), then annual windshield replacement should be standard. This was the case when I was with State Farm and also now that I'm with Allstate.

Call your agent or pull your latest policy to see what is covered. A call doesn't count against you :)

Requirements for glass replacement varry from state to state. Some say if you even carry comp coverage it's a free replacement, others apply the deductible for that coverage. California says the deductible will apply.

But you may be in luck. Depending on your carrier you may get additional coverage to help lower the deductible since you are in a rental/ temporary substitute vehicle.
Most carriers rates should be effected it you call and ask questions about your coverages and situation. Even if they open a claim you don't have to submit the bills, so nothing is paid under your policy.

Policies differ and coverage requirements differ between states.

I have State Farm here and they'll fill a chip/crack for free but will apply my $500 deductible for a replacement

    none yet/none planned! It's perfect!
I doubt the windshield is more than $300. Windshields are cheaper than what most people think.

It's not the OP's car. If his insurance extends to rentals (many including mine do not) then he's covered--otherwise I'd duke it out with the dealer. He not driving the shit-box RAV4 because he wants to; that's what the dealer that illegally confiscated his truck put him in. It's their problem...

I'm in the same boat. I had a loaner for 79 days due to the recall on my Tacoma. There's a tiny door ding on the passenger side door and they want $580 for the repair of the door. They told me to pay or contact my insurance. My deductible is also $500. Not sure what to do other then pay out of pocket.

I lowered my deductible to $50 after my first windshield on my 17 cracked ever so easily. Then my windshield cracked again. $50.

Fuuuck that. Try to pop it out with one of those $20 kits. Or take it somewhere and have them do it for $50-80. There is no way in hell the dealership would get any money for that repair. Even if it was justifiable.

There is a huge conflict of interest and I wouldn't play that game with them.

Same with op. No matter what happens they should NOT get that work.

Not sure how I would get the car back and have someone else do it. I literally just got my car back the other day and they called me back with that quote on the little small ass scratch... huge pain in the ass.

Last time I messed with my deductibles on my insurance I had an accident within a week. I had a construction drunk dump rocks on the highway right in front of me causing $2k damage.

They investigated that claim for weeks because it sent up a red flag or two.

Now, when I change anything insurance wise, I take a buttload of pictures and videos and email it to myself so I have a few timestamps.

Edit: I had just purchased the car a few weeks prior. Which is another redflag.
