Has anyone used the qi switch and some of its wiring to power lights or something. I have an iPhone but even then that pad seems worthless. I was going to try to find a switch that fit there, but then figured why not use the switch?

I'm sure you can utilize the power (for a relay) and the dimming feature. Then wire the relay to the battery or wherever you feel like going. Then you are only routing one wire into the cab.

Has anyone done this and can save me the time of probing wires? Or perhaps the schematic for that area?

Interesting question! Glad you brought this up
I'll never use that switch for it's intended purpose. Nice one OP !

I found the wiring diagram for that switch. It's kind of worthless. So I'll just measure and figure it out this weekend.

I just charged my new S7 on it today, seems to work ok but gets kinda warm, guess you could always use the switch for other things.

There's a great thread where a guy used the Qi switch to drive a relay which served as his reverse camera on/off modification.
Since he never used the Qi, turning the Qi on activated the reverse camera (and turned the Qi on).

I plan to follow that route rather than eat up a switch space with that mod.

Good idea! I've had three phones now and they all suck charging on the Qi wireless pad: Note 4 with wireless charging adapter; S8+ and Note 5 both designed for wireless charging. They charge super slow maybe 1% every 10 minutes and then the pad often overheats and malfunctions with both orange and green lights blinking and a high pitched beeping noise. The phone is also hot to the touch. Has to be a better purpose for this area and switch!

Qi charging is useless to me. I have a tendency to be rough on phones (broke 3 i-phones & will NEVER own a Apple product again) and one Droid. Anyhoo, I have a beefy case on my current phones (yes, phones, work & personal) and the Qi does not charge it. Soo.... It hold my glasses, tape measure, or whatever little cubby stuff. It is good due to the rubber and stuff doe not slide around.

I use mine all the time. Its always on. I was actually thinking about going the other way and wiring it so it is always on. Then re-purposing the switch hole for my Nav switch so my passenger has access. A schematic would be useful.

Yeah I did that. I posted about it in a thread about backup cam anytime in the 3rd gen forum, but it looks like that thread got deleted, which is super aggravating.

What I did was for the speed sensor mod, I tapped the switched power and ground off the Qi switch and ran them into a relay so that when the Qi charger is on, the nav unit gets the speed signal, and when it's off it doesn't. That way if I want a passenger to enter an address or something I can just bump off the Qi switch and then turn it back on after.

Here are the wires I tapped. Can't remember exactly, but I think the white one was ground and the blue was switched power. I had to remove the bezel around the radio and the climate controls, then popped out the switch and unplugged it so I could pull it out the back and get to the wires.

Sounds about right. I found the schematic page for that finally.

Glad it worked. I'm going to do mine this weekend.

Did you have it in a case that adapts the iPhone to Qi charging?

Hey cheuer, it would be great to be able to see this AWESOME mod in more detail. I really want to do this, but unfortunately my electronics skills are not as strong as yours.

I think heat issues are the biggest reason why Apple has stayed away from Qi charging.
