I'm planning to tow my 2010 PreRunner behind a motorhome. I have towed vehicles in the past and I'm familiar with many of the requirements for towing. I can purchase the driveshaft disconnect equipment, the towbar hitch, brake/turn signal lights, and I already have a braking system. My primary concern is whether I would need to remove certain fuses while traveling. The ignition switch must be in the "on" position to release the steering wheel lock while towing and this causes a drain on the battery. Many vehicle manufacturers publish info. on what fuse (or fuses) to pull but I can't find the Toyota information. Any help out there? Thanks.

Have you checked with the manufacturer of the driveshaft disconnect you are considering?

I contacted the Mfg. via their website shortly after posting here. I have not heard from them yet. I also posted this same question on an RV website and received 6 different answers. I'm not in a big hurry to get this resolved but I do like to plan ahead.

One interesting reply I received says that on many vehicles the ignition switch locks the steering wheel only but not the steering mechanism. He says he tows his vehicle (probably a small car) with the steering wheel locked and the keys in his pocket. He claims that he put his vehicle up on jack stands and with the steering wheel locked he can easily move the front wheels left and right. Hmmmm.
