The end game is low center of gravity and added fuel to disappear in Alaska for several months at a time. I will be hunting and probably will not see anyone, and if so, let it be at a fuel stop lol. I will remain in the unknown until I require more fuel lol; everything else will be provided from my surroundings. The space is clearly available and it has been suggested that a 1994 fuel tank should bolt on the passenger side. I believe you speak of the necessities required to function, which has yet to be determined. As for being cost effective, we shall see, although I certainly will not move forward without thinking it thru. My fuel concerns will be addressed over the next couple of weeks. My winter project is building a flatbed to sit above the current wheel well height, with a water tank, generator box, air-compressor box and other storage below it. I am a reasonable man and believe this is reasonable, however being reasonable, also allows for change. I have access to material at cost, skills necessary and desire with a little cash lol. Let God grant us the knowledge and health to explore our minds, to create our desires and passions into reality. Amen

in that case you can very well have a fuel cell built to your measurements .

Not sure just where you might want to run the exhaust that it won`t be .
hanging up on things unless your not venturing off of the hard surface roads .

This is no pavement puppy project, and a simple solution is to end the exhaust in front of rear wheel. We intend to eliminate the cat and replace with a can to manage noise; such a can should provide the back-pressure to maintain reasonable low end power. Where I am tagged, we have no emission requirements. Thank you for sharing my concerns. This is why we are here in Tacoma World lol; living the dream.

Even so if you have fuel tanks on both sides just where do you plan to run the exhaust .

Granted in the mild -50 F temps heating of the fuel tank won`t hurt but there is still the summer .

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that the tank is too forward, and the exhaust length will be too short. I will be sure to check my calculations, thank you

These are just idle thoughts, so they are probably worth what they cost you.

Have you considered running exhaust through the bed and out up high (like a tractor) it would add a bit of length and get heat away from a nearby fuel tank.
Are you at all concerned about having all your furl down low and in a location that risks puncture of the tanks and loss while a great distance from rescue? This may be a very low risk depending on many other factors, but it occurred to me based on your use case for the truck.

    good luck with your build.

That is an option and thank you for mentioning it. This winter flatbed build will assist in how the exhaust is ultimately run. The flatbed deck will be about the same stock wheel well height; therefore we have room to discover. I have be absent from the archery range since I have been focused on truck build, and I have a nine day elk solo hunt in September. I have got to get to the range, but I intend on removing stock bed to take photos and measure everything to begin designing. I will return bed after measuring. If I could get CAD as built drawings, that would be great, but since I am an elevator mechanic, I would be scared to base any design time and money on others drawings lol. I mostly see generic prints and they are helpful, but rarely accurate lol. I know we will not be using the stock fuel pump that is for sure; inline pumps on both tanks.

You can run the exhaust parallel with the driveshaft and route up and over after the carrier bearing. Heat wrapping exhaust would also be a good idea.

I dont like having the exhaust dumped under cab before axle because youl get exhaust fumes coming up through the rear cab vents.

Thank you and that has been a concern. Yes routing the exhaust is no longer an issue. As we prepare the 04 double cab for Alaska, my son and I have decided to build the 91 taco with long travel and stuff the 407small block resting in the barn into her; let the welding begin lol.

You can fit a pretty large gas tank in the sparetire location and then make a mount somewhere on the flatbed.

This sounds like a really cool project. Do you have a build thread? Your trip to Alaska sounds equally interesting. I think a lot of us here would appreciate pics if you're into it.

I do a lot of travelling into the desert of the Southwest and Baja Mexico. Those areas aren't quite as remote as Alaska however carrying extra fuel has been an issue. Last year before going to baja I added an auxiliary fuel tank to my truck. It's worked out really well. I can carry 35 gallons of usable fuel. We're going to add dry disconnects to the fuel lines going from the aux tank to the main tank in order to refuel other vehicles like motorcycles in Baja. Among other things to make it work better.

You can read more about it here in my build thread - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/otis24s-build.372874/

I just posted a review with what I'd change or going to change.

Thank you for your input, I will definitely follow your lead on the disconnects to provide fuel for other uses. I remember driving down baja to go surfing and having to wake residents to fuel from 55 gallon drums lol.

Alaska moose hunt and no shooters (legal size bull), but we did do shots of JD lol; actually drank out of the bottle.

The taco build is in progress. I made templates made of cardboard to fabricate the storage system that is replacing the rear seat. I picked up oak wood for facing truck door and drawer faces and 5/16 plywood for box. I am installing it tomorrow Saturday and hope to have time to carpet it. Another late night 1:25am.
