Tons of Tacomas get bought and used for business use......they run them up to 100k mi+ and then sell them for 90% of what they paid new. Great vehicle for racking up a ton of miles fast and reselling. Only con is the mediocre fuel economy but most of them get used for light hauling too.

I bought my 16' DCSB TRD Offroad 4x4 with 79,000 miles at the end of June 2020 for $25,000.

At the time and looking at what was available I thought I got an ok deal. I thought 79k was alot of miles for a $25k truck but I traded in a 2016 FiST with 70k miles.

Out of curiosity, about a month ago I got a cash offer from Carmax. They offered me $28k.

Looking at these values does not make me feel good. I bought my truck on the pricing up-swing but I'm concerned that when the price, inevitably, comes crashing back to earth, will I have paid too much.

Really it does not bother me too much. I traded $80k miles for about $13k. New my truck MSRP was about $38k. Considering I should get just as many trouble free miles out of this truck as I would have if I bought it new, I'd be happy to get $15k out of it in 5 years with another 80k miles added. I dont think that's asking too much.

All in I'm pretty happy with my purchase. I really enjoy driving my truck and taking advantage of all of the capabilities that it offers.

Driving around in my Ford I was always concerned about when is it going to blow up next. Something about that Toyota symbol on the steering wheel is reassuring. Maybe drinking the Koolaid but, if it makes me happy...

I want to, but need to wait a few more months before I decide if I’m pulling the trigger on a new truck. I’m hoping the used market stays inflated until spring :fingerscrossed:

I would say the only thing that is insanely high is the guy trying to get 30k for a 170k mile Tacoma.

$18k drive off the lot cost and it'd be a deal.

Agreed. I test drove a used 2017 model back in 2018 that was listed at $34,500 with 15k on the clock. After driving, I'd hoped they'd be willing to negotiate. They weren't, so I left and bought a new 2018, with better options, for the same price.

Used the zip code you posed.

KBB still came back way lower than the dealer. $20,919 was highest for private sell.
Dealer in Orange County is nuts.

in 2017 a dealer sold a 2012 with 58k on it with tires that were toast and needed some love for 30k pre tax

Nothing surprises me with price anymore after that. Why i bought new

One can never have too many light bars.
That sounds about right in CA. Definitely a little inflated but it’s not that crazy. Should probably be 24-25ish. It really depends on the quality of the lift. Dealer will probably find a chump to pay that amount.

Thinking you paid too much when prices start to come down doesn't make sense.

You wouldn't have a truck you got at the time for that price and use it until you think you find a better deal on one.

Its an argument you can make for almost anything. Example TV's are dirt cheap now. In 2006 a 42" plasma was around 1700 dollars. Now they are cheap as hell across the board (obviously you can find expensive TV's but its the average availability for price)

I just sold my 2012 with some mods for $25k. It had 75k miles on it and looked new. I had it listed for $26k thinking it would never sell. I picked up a new 2020 sight unseen and had to wait 6 weeks for it to come in.

You guys are nuts, no way that will sell for less than $20k in California, especially right now. I bet they get 25k+ for it.

I saw a 2019 SR5 with 19k miles going for $38k miles! That's thousands of $$$ more than what I paid for my 2020 SR5 in March. My mind is blown.

Thats 160 miles a day, 365 days a year, for not quite 3 years. ~950 hours per year, or nearly half of the average 40 hour work week (40 hours minus your standard 10 holidays = 2000 hours per year). Somebody's sweaty ass really spent some time in that driver's bucket.

I just bought a similar truck likes yours '16 DCSB Off Road 4x4 Super White (non- premium package, mint condition) with 78K miles for $25K here in SoCal. I though I paid too much for a 5 yrs truck until I see this thread.

My buddy and I paid around 33k for a brand new 2017 tacoma. He just sold a few months ago to the dealership for 39k. He literally made money off his truck after abusing it for 3 years lol
