Has anyone got a trade in quote for their new 4th gen or try to sell and see what they could get?

Carmax will not give me a price for a few random ones I tried. The only 4th gen sold on the forum was for 27k back in May with 47k miles a 2024 SR so probably around a 39k MSRP.

    Couple of Pros

2024 with 300 miles bid to 61k after auction fees. MSRP 66.5k

2024 with 8k miles bid to 59k after auction fees MSRP 66.5k

I do have to admit, the interior plastic is awful. It's not just plastic, its thin cheap plastic that scratches when you fart.

    Previous thread on this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trade-in-on-2024-ouch.853638/

Resale is low because of much better availability of new trucks on dealer lots now compared to 2020-2023.

Almost all trims... the super high trims just have some nice padding over the crap plastic. Its not just scratchy its really thin.

My 3G scratched just looking at it crosswise. And there were vast useless expanses of it. Didn't have to fart.

    Have you tried kbb.com yet?

Generally speaking, trade in on a one year old vehicle is gonna suck relative to what you paid. First year depreciation is usually pretty bad.

Especially when there's no shortage of new vehicles being produced.

I bought my "24 ORDCLB standard in April of "24 for $45800 and traded it in last month on a '25 Silverado 1500 with the Duramax, and I got 44k for trade. 15k miles on the odometer with a few aftermarket parts that were left on her. I feel I got a pretty good trade for it.

Yeah seems like people are still hung up on those carvana/covid days where you could turn your truck in and get a check for 4k

    Strange thread...

Do you (OP) have a 4G to sell? Looking to buy one new vs used? What do you mean that you tried to get a quote "for a few random ones" from Carmax?

You can't compare a trade-in value to an outright sale. They'll increase the trade-in to make you feel good and then add the difference to the price of the vehicle you're buying.

Did Toyota silently add automatic locking tailgate to the SRs? White truck is Carmax 24, the other is my 25..

I'm going to buy a new mid size. I took a few VIN's from used car dealers and acted like I wanted to sell them to carmax to see what they would be willing to pay. I do this a lot with any used car I plan on buying, gives you an idea on how much your going to lose if you want to get out of it quick.

I usually never cared about resale value always driven my vehicles to the end of life. A mid size truck I'm sure I'm going to grow out of in about 4-5 years. I'd buy a fullsize but whoever built my garage left it about a foot short.

Out of these options I think the 4th gen or the gladiator will have the best. I'd be happy with a SR but for 36k purchase price it's to close to the OR
trdOR 44k msrp buy for 39-40k
mojave glad msrp 56k buy for 40-42k
    2.7tt ranger msrp 44k buy for 37-38k
    pro4x msrp 44k buy for 37k
trailboss msrp 43k buy for 37k

If your local dealer is sitting on a full lot and willing to drop 5 grand off the sticker on a Tacoma, then you shouldn’t expect outstanding first-year depreciation numbers. That said, I’d be more concerned over the 10-15 grand desperation deals that Jeep is still offering.

Some people are upset over not being able to flip their truck every six months for a profit, as if that was sustainable. Regardless, in a more normal market, you can bank on Tacoma residuals leveling off long-term, and remaining at the very top of their peer group, right where we always expect them to be.

Working on a lien delete for my title…..

Step one on a Carmax appraisal is to run carfax. They won’t appraise a car listed at a dealer for sale, or one that doesn’t match your name etc. IIRC

If resale value of a mid-size pickup is a concern then Tacoma is the only way to go. And this is coming from someone who drove Tacomas for 20 years and swapped over to a Ranger Raptor. I know depreciation will hit me harder than if I got a TRD Pro, but it's a non-factor to me.
