Long story short, I took my taco in to get the ECM reseeded because of lost keys. Also discovered the immobilizer is bad ( long story). So I'm paying $300+ for the immobilizer (no surprise). My question is: with a new immobilzer, doesn't it take the first key that's stuck in the ignition? i.e. like the first time it's rolled off the factory floor? I ask because the reseed charge is another $250, and maybe I don't need it.......

Why do you need a new one? When new it's in auto registration mode. So yes whatever keys are used they will become programmed, although some years stil req techstream to program, just not a reseed.

Not sure if this applies, but I just had the transponder amplifier replaced. This sends the code from the key/ ignition to the ecu/ immobilizer and the dealer reprogrammed my existing key. Now the part was almost $500 so I guess the reprogramming was part of it. Before that I had the ecu reflashed and there was no charge. Thiswasdone because the struck would start and the immobilizer would shut it down.
