I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma with check engine light on. 2 codes came up and I replaced those parts. The light went off, but it came back on again after driving around 50 miles. What can I do to reset it?

What were the codes and what parts did you replace?

If the codes were truly fixed, it shouldn't be coming back on. I'd run the codes again to confirm, then shut them off again and see what happens after another 50 miles.

    The code was P0101
    Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
I replaced that and after about 50 miles, it came back on.

A good first step is to do a search on this site using the code as your search.

If you do this, you'll get a bunch of links to read that describe where others have had this issue.

    For instance, here's one:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/check-engine-code-p0101.72775/

Skip to the bottom and that user tells you what he did to fix the issue. Good luck!

How did you clear the codes after you installed the new parts?

Trouble codes are not part numbers, they give you a direction on what component(s) to check but that doesn't necessarily mean those parts are bad. Very few codes are cut and dry as far as a bad part and often codes can be set as an effect of another part failing or something else.

First thing I always question with a MAF code is do you have a stock intake system? Aftermarket intakes can skew the MAF sensor readings and cause issues.

I took the negative battery cable off, and the check engine light went off. Then after about 50 miles it came back on. What else can I do?

If the code is coming back it's because the issue is not resolved. "Resetting the code" is just resetting the emissions monitoring cycle in the ECU, which clears the code but the code will come back once the emissions cycle is run through again and the ECU detects that the issue is still there.

what kind of MAF sensor did you go with? I don't know about 2nd gens, but with 1st gens aftermarket sensors almost always create the same or more problems than they solve. Have to splurge on the OEM. I would try cleaning the original one first before replacing it, especially with an aftermarket one.
