    UPDATE:

This is not a paid advertisement, but rather a heartfelt shutout to the incredible people within our community. Recently, I picked up the now rare skid plate for my first-generation vehicle. I started a thread sharing my find and received some responses, but life got busy and I lost track of it all. Fast forward to preparing for summer vacation activities, and suddenly that skid plate popped back into my mind.

Reviving the thread got me a few more responses but most importantly, it led me to connect with a member nearby. Among those who responded was Mr. Kwikvette—a true gem in our midst—who generously offered to make some brackets for my skid plate. Living nearby made it easy to arrange a quick visit, and upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by Mr. Kwikvette himself.

As he showed me around his setup, I marveled not only at his impressive skills and knowledge but also at his genuine humbleness. It's people like him who remind us what community is all about—supporting one another with kindness and expertise. Now equipped with brackets to attach my skid plate, I'm excited to share this is a possibility with anyone who might have hesitated on purchasing the tundra version due to bracket issues.

I am truly grateful for Mr. Kwikvette and his down-to-earth nature—it’s inspiring! This experience has reinforced my appreciation for this forum where we can connect with members like him and learn from each other’s journeys. Here’s to great fellas doing great work!

    Hello fellas,

I recently came across an oem skid plate. I rarely see them available and I was excited at first. Now, turns out I need brackets and hardware in order to install. Anyone have any leads or know how I can purchase the nardware and brackets needed?

Wish I could give you the part number for these brackets. This is what they look like. The bolts are M12 1.75. I just had to go get new ones because I lost the originals when I took it off last.

I would install a heavy flat washer between each bolt head and the skid plate.

Mostly cosmetic but she ain’t stock(looking) anymore.
Hey so this skid plate has been discontinued for the first gen. Tacomas and there’s no separate part # for this hardware, it came with the plate. I bought this one https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~skid~plate~tund~seq~pt212-34060.html, same plate but bigger(a bit longer)brackets for the ‘06 Tundra. They will work, I had a friend help with install and we manually manipulated the brackets as we put it on(large channel locks/pry bar)then bent it into place. Best we could do on the fly without a shop. Looks a bit different but I like it.3D07230E-1605-4B66-8802-7E1AB04451CA.jpg You might find a knock off plate on EBay for the Tacoma and use the hardware but it will still be close to $100. The pic in the link shows the brackets, maybe trying to fab something from HD or Ace would be the cheaper route. Good luck!

    Hello!

Reviving the thread. Thanks to everyone for sharing. If anyone has found a way to attach using parts from local HP or Lowe's, I am all ears.

    Thanks in advance.

Bro, you gotta just get creative and start fabbing something up. You’ll be waiting a while if you’re hoping someone else is gonna figure it out for you.

Get in touch with someone like @Kwikvette. Maybe you can make some cardboard templates to send him, and he can cnc cut and bend 'em for you.

Keep in mind that "skid plate" is more for show than actual protection. Doubt it would hold up to mall wheeling let alone a rock garden.

    @Andy01DblCabTacoma

    Thanks for the tag

I'm in the shop actually bending stuff as we speak :burp:

Those brackets look super simple to create and I'd be happy to make a few sets if you want to get me dimensions.

I'll make them free for mocking up the parts.

OP is swinging by in a couple of hours - judging by the pics I just mocked this up real quick -

Once the actual guard and truck are here, I can grab the dimensions :burp:

His bolts for both his hook and loop (factory) seems as if they've never been removed.

It was really hot out so we didn't want to spend much time trying to get them off but I did get them off on the passenger side.

Driver side needs to sit for 24 hours with some penetrating fluid.

Anyway, I used the mock up I made (before he arrived, no dimensions) and it was pretty much dead on. Just had to widen one flange, notch an angle off the long leg for clearance, and input the hole dimensions in CAD and the first piece was dead on perfect.

Driver side is identical in terms of hole spacing so I simply mirrored the passenger bracket.

    Easy stuff really.
